Appears we are backing the same horse, it's paid for a bit of maintenance, hopefully can buy, or go towards the next floater

One of the early Chutzpah's is back on the market. This Davidson 34 is on a mooring very close to mine. Couple of young lads own her and I thought they were going to do great things with her but plans change. This is a large and powerful vessel and needs some mods to make her easier to handle by a small crew. She is basically in the same configuration as when she sailed in the Sydney Hobart races.
Cosmetically she is quite presentable and the interior is better than the photos show. Very roomy. Some one needs to buy this boat to remove the temptation!.

A similar Contessa 25 sold in Sydney today on Facebook for $1000. Was only for sale for a few hours. "Chutzpah"{Davidson 34} above has sold and is off to Victoria.

Carmen is for sale. Nice looking boat. I checked her out when she stopped over here last year. That draft and kelp catcher keel might be a problem cruising the East Coast. Interesting write up.

Belle is for sale. The sign on the boat says to call 04048722752

I took the first two photos below on the slip at Manly today. The reason I find Belle interesting is because of an earlier photo of the same boat crossing the bar at Wide Bay in 2003, scroll down the link below, or see the third photo below. Obviously, there is more than one way to get the keel out of the water ...

I like this. If mooring and slipping fees were not a problem this would be a delightful boat to own. Running back stays but the spreaders go back a bit so they would only be needed on days I would not be at sea!

Oldie but good! I really like the drain at the reconstructed SS mast step. I wish I had thought of that.

Ramona,
I am concerned about the water that will collect inside the mast below the green hose opening.
Could we improve it by putting the internal opening of the hose at the bottom of the mast?
What do you think of attaching a pump in the hose to remove all the collected water?

On another matter.
You did such a great analysis of the passage north a couple of years ago.
Any chance you can repost that on my current topic?

Why on earth are the switches there?
They should be lower,
I mean a little closer to the damp bilge.

Nice boat though.

Yes, You are right.
What then is the purpose of the hose entering the mast significantly higher?

I welded up a SS mast base just the same as the photo but just drilled drain holes in the aft corners. The rain water runs down the inside of the mast and just drains down the front of the base down into the sump above the keel. There are bilge pumps there to get rid of the water. On the Brolga this bloke looks to have a drain from the inside of the mast as well as the base section. The original was made of mild steel and rusted. The flaking rust blocked the drain holes and there would always be a puddle of water, aluminium mast sitting in a mild steel container of rusty freshwater! 40 years ago stainless steel was expensive. Now it's only slightly more expensive than mild steel.
Judging by the other photos in the ad the owner is very conscientious of the fine details.
