Went with that as you have to be at the mast or forward to gather in the sails when dropping.
Not as far to run.
There is a tiller pilot if need be.
There will be a few baby clutches above the winches.

House Rule is if I buy a boat I have to sell one!
And I like the ones I have.
But this one could be a stunning next project.

Well a land mark day today, new engine started and run.
To me this always a major landmark event in any restoration.
The sound of the engine and exhaust water running means the finish is almost here.
I am not sure which feeling is stronger, the feeling of relief that it is done or the feeling of satisfaction that it is done.
The more times you tell yourself that you will not do this again (this is number 4 for me) the surer you can be that you will.
Cheers and thanks for your interest in it all.

Lydia,
She looks fantastic mate, cant wait to see her in the flesh!
BTW, will all the crew have to grow mullets/brylcreem look/permed hair?
Enquiring minds would like to know.
SB

Mullets and that would be just be the start . Dennis Lilly moustache,
If cold cream greasy wool jumper or navy blue with elbow patches ,a pipe and yellow line7 boots under the flared pants.
If warm the shortest shorts , thongs and one of those shirts with the long collars
unbuttoned .
Hey Cisco I like the idea of the red velvet but might be a bit to ostentatious. Whatever happened to him?
You want any more ideas Lydia?

Raided the storage at the summer house. Found an original Douglas Gill greasy wool jumper

I am good for the pvc Line 7 wet weather gear I have still have mine from 1981 Hobart I have just kept replacing the zips over the years and used it fishing

You've got to be joking You still have them ! I know I junked the line 7 gear when I sold the business but might have the jumper somewhere .

Hey I did the M/H westcoaster in 81. On the nose all the way to storm bay even when we turned the corner at Maatsuyker arrived early hours New Year's Day to wife and teenage daughter who said they had a fantastic New Year's Eve on Constitution Dock waiting for us. So what was the partying ,they won't tell me.

I had a greasy wool jumper just like that. It was great until one day I thought after a race I would dry in the clothes dryer ready for the next day. Big mistake, it came out half its original size.

Original plan but new mast.
A new one was too cheap to justify repainting and re-rigging the old section.
Allyacht spars in Brisbane did a great job.
Still using old boom though for the moment.

Phil
Later today if the Ox finished the sail before he goes to Hobart
inside is all done save for replacing the lines to the stove and the water tank
New fuel gauge now working
last little issue with the rig was that the anchor light was shorting out

so top marks to Troy at Vetus who been terrific, everything supplied has been top stuff and the only problem been an installation issue on the gauge sender (which he did not install) but he came out and fixed himself last week.

As usual Joel and Chris at Allyacht Spars delivered in fine style.
They replaced the anchor light and cable in situ no issue and it looks like a defect in the light itself.

Lastly Jason from jsa marine got the really crap job for a 37 degree day of firstly driving around to find an odd imperial size joiner for the hydraulic backstay line ( which went missing along the way) then connecting it all up and bleeding it all while in the back of the boat in 40 degrees.

hoping to leave for Hobart about 5 January
