There are some nice winter swells coming up. Secret Harbour, Point Peron and Shoalwater Bay have had some nice swells lately. I have been out jumping waves nearly every other day but there does not seem to be many local riders around that are into the same thing, most seem to be flat water riders.
I would like to try to get a group of keen wavejumpers together. Any interest/help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

im sure its not... [a joke that is] jet skis have equal rights to the water as kites and windsurfers and there are reasons why they should have more rights but i think we are all a bit to happy being hypocritical here to bother reading them.

Ode to a Jet-Ski person

Jet-ski person, selfish fink.
May your silly jet-ski sink.
May you hit a pile of rocks,
Oh hoonish summer coastal pox

Noisy smoking dickhead fool,
On your loathsome leisure tool,
Give us all a jolly lark
And sink beside a hungry shark

Scream as in it’s fangs you go
Your last attention-seeking show
While on the beach we all join in
With “three cheers for the dorsal fin”

You probably wouldn't see many jetskiers in those areas because it's a marine park.

Hey Steegs, me, my bro's and cousins have a few 08 superjets and mainly hit Crystals @ Point Peron - was going off Friday arvo!! Looking at heading out this Wednesday and Friday arvo's as swell is up and tide down again... Apparently no West Aussie has done a backflip yet, looking to change that!!

To all you other muppets, you don't know Steegs (neither do I, but...) or me so take your one eyed steriotypical views of jet skiers and stick em... Well you know where

I admit there are a number of idiots that ride skies, but there are also a number of environmentalists that are equally as idiodic, so save judgement.

He's right you know.

Jet skiers, or "Aqua Bogans" as is their official title, are exempt from all laws of the ocean. They are also phenomenally talented.

I once saw an aqua bogan riding his jet ski whilst eating a big mack and smoking a fag. Quite astounding.

I can understand having a jetski to get to a reef break with your surfboard when it's too far too paddle or to use one for rescue.
But for the life of me i cannot understand why you would purposly polute the ocean with one of these things in the name of thrills.
No one likes to see them , hear them or smell them (yuk) when they are trying to enjoy other water activities.
I can't see that you could base a lifestyle around a jetski or be addicted to it.
Windsurfing , surfing and yes even kitesurfing are lifestyle based water sports that require skill and persistance to master.
The cheap fast thrills you get from riding abnoxious machines is shallow and short lived.
So come on make a lifestyle choice you blokes....live the dream.

good post stribo

I have been sailing competitively for the last 15 years and I know there is no greater satisfaction than getting the most out of the natural wind power. Jetskiing is a hobby of mine which I have just picked up the last few months and is certainly not the basis of my lifestyle, I would say watersports in general is my lifestyle choice, which on occasion includes engine propulsion as unfortunately it's not blowing 20 knots everyday!

believe it or not, it does require a lot of skill and patience (stand up ski) to master and whilst its propulsion is at the squeeze of a trigger, mastering manouvers and tricks are just as challenging as any other watersport and is no way shallow and short lived (sit downs are a different kettle of fish tho!)

As for the environment aspect, the small level of fumes my jetski puts out per week is immensly insignificant than the average persons car puts out in a day etc and whilst it's easy to say 'why would you purposely damage the environment' nearly everything we do these days has a negative impact on the environment which we are fully aware of and is just a sad fact of modern living - not condoning a 'don't worry about it' attitude to the environment, but there is many other ways I can have a greater positive impact on the environment than simply not using my jetski

hmmm, said like a kiter.

jetskis don't have equal rights to the water. for eg. sail craft have right of way over powered craft.

a no brainer really.

I've never heard the words skill and patience used in the same sentence as jetski before. You might be banging your head against a brick wall trying to convince us how good jetskis are other than the points Stribo mentioned.
Good luck though.

Phenomenal!!

If you're going to sledge using big words try a dictionary first.

And on the subject of maturity...

PITTSBORO — It may sound like something from Ripley's Believe It or Not, but a conventional jet ski kicks out more pollution in two hours than a late model car does in 130,000 miles.

There are pollution restrictions on businesses, cars and trucks but there are no similar restrictions on boats or jet skis.

"The amount of pollution coming from these engines is simply staggering," says Russell Long of the Blue Water Network. "Nobody even knew this until the Environmental Protection Agency recently took a look at them and they found out that, yes, these are one of the largest sources of toxic water pollution in the United States."

But of course, your jet ski doesn't count.

Most modern jetski are 4stroke, quiet and dont smell or smoke, no good comparing " conventional jetski ( whatever that is) with a late model car, compare modern jetski and modern car eh!

I very much doubt they are " one of the largest sources of toxic water pollution in the United States."

Oh well if you very much doubt it it MUST be wrong. It's OK, you don't need to back up your argument with any proof. I'll believe you.

Most modern jetskis sold now are 4 strokes, agreed. Did everyone just throw away their two stroke machines?

Believe what ever you want mate, you base your lame argument on an excerpt from a 10 year old article and then neglect to mention the conclusion.

Jet Skis Adding to Pollution

Posted: Jul 25, 1998

PITTSBORO — It may sound like something from Ripley's Believe It or Not, but a conventional jet ski kicks out more pollution in two hours than a late model car does in 130,000 miles.

There are pollution restrictions on businesses, cars and trucks but there are no similar restrictions on boats or jet skis.

Zipping across Jordan Lake on a jet ski looks like good, clean fun. But environmental groups say riding a jet ski is one of the single most damaging acts to the water and to the air.

"The amount of pollution coming from these engines is simply staggering," says Russell Long of the Blue Water Network. "Nobody even knew this until the Environmental Protection Agency recently took a look at them and they found out that, yes, these are one of the largest sources of toxic water pollution in the United States."

The jet ski's two-cycle engine allows some unburned fuel to pass right into the water and right into the air. Environmentalists want to take action; dealers say the industry is taking care of it.

"One thing Kawasaki started doing last year was they put an exhaust flap over the rear of the unit here. What this does is lower the emissions coming out of the ski. The main reason they put this on also was noise," says Dwayne Byrd of Kawasaki-Suzuki of Durham. Byrd says there are also cleaner carburetors due for 1998.

Byrd says manufacturers know they have to respond to environmental concerns, due to the size of the watercraft market. Byrd says he welcomes the changes.

And the news is not all bad. One possible solution: four-stroke engines, which burn a lot cleaner than the current two-stroke engines.
