People screaming that Anthony Albanese "hasn't done enough" to combat antisemitism might want to slow down and actually look at the record, not the outrage cycle.
What Labor has done since 2022
Labor created Australia's first ever Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism in 2024, a role that never existed under any previous government.
Labor funded and released a National Plan to Combat Antisemitism, with dozens of concrete actions covering policing, education, universities, online hate, and community safety.
Labor delivered tens of millions of dollars in direct security funding to Jewish schools, synagogues, and community centres, including emergency funding after spikes in threats.
Labor committed funding to Holocaust education, including a National Holocaust Education Centre and expanded curriculum support.
Labor backed federal law enforcement operations specifically targeting antisemitic threats, harassment, and violence.
All of this happened before the current wave of political pile-ons.
What the Coalition did from 2013 to 2022
Under Turnbull and Morrison, the Coalition introduced the Safer Communities Fund in 2016, which Jewish organisations used for security upgrades.
The Morrison government took Australia into the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance in 2019.
The Morrison government formally adopted the IHRA working definition of antisemitism in 2021.
Those were real and important steps. Nobody serious disputes that.
I've met Anthony Albanese before and I was surprised how dopey he was. It was around 2016 and I was invited to demonstrate to some politicians the benefits of pedal assisted E-bikes as another city mobility option. I chatted to Anthony and got him to do a test ride. On his return I asked him, "What do you think?"
His response was, "That's cheating." And then walked off.
So flexing your calf muscle to move 2000kg of metal is fine but pedalling a push bike with a 250W electric assist on a 20kg bicycle that is 100x more efficient than a car is "cheating".
This guy is the leader of the country....it's a worry.
