I am looking to by either the new 5.4 Quattro drifter pro or the New Armstrong FG 5.5 wing board. What are your thoughts?

You can't go wrong with either. Armstrong makes amazing boards. I have the Quatro 5.6 and love it. Amazing board, fun and great performance with tons of stability for its size.

I have the 90L Quatro "beefed up" version. I'm 90 KGs without my usual 5.4mm wetsuit. It's really a fantastic all round board. The heel reinforcements could be stronger as my heels have "bedded in" The forward deck a bit on either side from railing hard upwind. The Armstrong FG boards look great but I'm wondering if the extra $1000 bucks is really worth the money for winging. You could get a great performing Quatro and have money left over for another foil.

Thanks can555 for the feedback. That is a great way of seeing things. Do you have pictures of the bedded in heel sides. My weight is 69kg. I just wanted to choose the board that is going to last me a long time :)

So far so good, the Quatro v2 'beefed' up version is working well and I'm very happy with the construction and quality. And I'm very, very rough on my equipment.

I have really progressed on my 5'4 90L Wing Drifter and overall super happy with it. This is my first wing board that I own, before that I borrowed or rented bigger (120L+) boards. It's really great, but after 20 sessions or so and nailing almost every Jibe and learning to tack, wondering if I should have gone straight to the 5'2 80L? Either way I'm very happy with it!
Riding it on the Armstrong HS1850 and HS1250 (when there's enough wind).

What board bag do you use with this board? I was looking at the manera 175 cm x 78cm for the 5'4'' board. Usually i think that for flat bags like these ones, you have to had the width of the board to the thickness of the board. I could not fin the thickness of the quatro board. Could anything tell me ? Also do you think that this bag could fit the Quatro board. Thanks for the help

Hi rbm, those were plates I had left over from an old 1990ies snowboard binding.

I just got a pice of 3mm x 15mm aluminium bar. Drilled four holes in it and attached the foot strap with two M4 stainless bolts. Works a treat. I also bent the bar a little to give room for the head of the m4 bolts.

I'll need to get some photos but I have had lots of issues with this board and little cracks (that could let water in and delaminate) over the top perimeter of the board. Must be from tiny impacts like placing the board carefully on the ground upside down to dry, but honestly I have been very careful.

Wow interesting! I have the same on mine. All of a sudden I notice a crack and there's no event I can trace it back to where it could have been an impact. So it must have been from normal handling of the board, but I'm also very careful and store the board in a bag always.

You guys should specify what version you have: V1 or V2.

First few batch was not reinforced enough at the top rail and would crack under normal sailing/landing pressure on some.
Version 1.5 came out a few months later with reinforced rail, 2lbs heavier, straps were moved back several cm and have 3 rows of rear straps positions instead of two (best indicator you have the reinforced version are the 3 rows rear straps)

Ok so I have the second batch then (3 rows rear straps), but still the cracks happening. One big (8cm) crack on the top of the rail towards the nose, and two smaller (2cm) cracks on the bottom contours of the board.

I'll see if I can snap some pics.

Some photos of my recent cracks. It all started with a crack on the nose I discovered when I got home with the new board (bought 2nd hand unused through seabreeze)(last photo). I think mine is first edition. Is there any recourse with the manufacturer if this is unreasonably fragile?

Same issue with my 5'8" (I started this thread to get info on the board).

I have cracks on the deck that I have put carbon over, cracks on the nose and tail. All required expoxy + mat fixes.

In all other respects I like the board and it works very well with my Axis foils.

I am just repairing with little applications of clear fiberglass filled epoxy (sun cure) and sanding to smooth a little- worked ok for the nose so far, a little ugly on close inspection. However I figure it can be redone with sheets of carbon in the future if required.

r0d - which axis foil are you using and do you run the mast all the way back in the tracks?

Hi Powis, I have a Quattro wing drifter 5-4 90 litre V2 and can help here. I'm an intermediate and was running both my Axis 1010 and 880 foils wit's the rear of the mast plate about 2-3 inches from the back of the track.
When I first got the ART999 I was getting a bit overwhelmed with the pop and drop and felt that I had to run it right at the back, and even used my drilled out alloy mast plate to get an extra inch rearward over standard. That made it quite do-able and I learned to control the pop and drop, and now I run the 999 about 1.5 inches from the back
I can't really use the rear foot strap at that point as my front leg burns too much, but I don't jump at the moment anyway.

I'm using a PNG 910 and a huge BSC1120 for super light wind. Normal fuse. I have the 1120 set in the middle of the box and the 910 slightly further back (but still nearer the middle of the box than the rear of the box).
I'm using a Y 3 strap set up.
Although by current standards it's a big board (I often go out in very light wind*) it works very well with the foils.
