Cheers Isaak! I recon I'll be chasing Dave all the way. But it would be great to see a team result of 600km for the day.

It's certainly worth giving a go ...

My top five distances sessions have been in Oct-Nov-Dec, with the best three sessions all in November, so this is definitely my target month for setting a distance sailing record.

Distance Travelled
511.598 (29 Nov 2009)
315.501 (22 Nov 2008)
274.890 (28 Nov 2010)
207.712 (28 Dec 2009)
163.200 (24 Oct 2009)

Plenty of time to prepare ...

What is this farse! I get directed to some Vico that went to bed and then got up and went out for another sail and calls it a record. Ah cmon as if a victorian can cut the mustard' with our Davy boy!!

No offence Kato, you Dave and Jacques have certainly earnt mega respect and motivated many to get out there and have a good dig at getting up some serious distance. Its just a pity your Victorian

Mucho Respecto!

Just to clarify, the GPS Team Challenge site does not really hold any records as such. We define a session as happening any time from midnight to midnight on the one calendar day.

We have had times when people have sailed through midnight and so we had to ask them to split their session at midnight.

If you want to compare records then GPS-SS is a good place to do it, they are a lot more formal with checking people's tracks after they achieve a PB. We just trust everyone to post the right results (and as far as I'm aware, everyone always does), but you can't formally rely on it.

Thanks Nebs, I'll be planning on sticking to the GPSTC format of midnight to midnight
Theres no doubting that Kato's awesome effort is deffinately the world 24hour record.
It will be great to see the new world 24 hour record(when it happens) recorded on GPSTC with the midnight to midnight ruling

Good luck with it. Have a look at the Ay-Up lights for the night time leg and having a reference light on shore helped too. Have a practice first with the night stuff as its very different and easy to lose your wind direction.

Here's some advice from the great man on fitness etc

www.redbull.com/cs/Satellite/en_INT/Article/bjorn-dunkerbeck-red-bulletin-feature-021243018280832

Fit Across The Board
"There's no one part of the body that's more important than others when it comes to windsurfing; it's a complete body workout. Your legs take the strain when you control the board; you train your arms and upper body so that you can control the sail. The good thing is, the stronger you are, the better you can surf. But I don't go to the gym very often."

Thanks Kato! the Ay-up lights are a fantsatic aussie company. I nearly bought some last year for endurance horse riding but in the end got carried away and made my own. Ended up with a fully water proof 1000 lumens which I can use for night sailing as well.
Hey look at this you've been beaten

Good reading Jez, vezzy interesting.

Now about lights, would cycle lights be good to use or would the salt water totally stuff them up. I've got a cycle light called a....wait for it...Joystick. Cost $350 so it's a pretty good one, it can handle rain but can it handle the old salt Does anyone know

I'm not going to say a word! Ah what the heck, I might as well mention that your Joystick is exposure. when you mount your joystick on your head you look like a d#%khead. If you attach it to your boom you have two Dicks attached to your rig
Looks like they would do the job Kazz, you might need to try it out though

Confused !!!!!! so am i. See if you can get your head around this. I never broke Dave,s GPSTC and as previously stated by Ben that the team challenge is not about record breaking or keeping thats GPS3,s role, but i did break the 24hr distance record (Held by Dave)
GPSTC rules are that it must be in a calender day. Jacques broke the GPSTC record with 521km but missed the 24hr distance record of 540.9km. A bit hard to claim the World Distance Record when you sail a smaller distance. So that the mark. Go for it,I,ll cheer from the side lines

I suppose the only way to put all confusion to rest is sail more than 540.9km in one calendar day (24hours). Then the person can hold both top distance ranking and the world Record on the GPSTC and the GPSSS respectively.

PS - there's no doubt that Kato has the GPSSS record for any 24hour period and now Jaques has the top distance ranking on the GPSTC (which hopefully one of you crazy bastards can take back)

I think for anyone who plans to make it to 520 km now, it'd certainly be worth pushing on a bit further and going for both records, especially as the gap between the two has reduced!! They are different things though, as explained, so holding either record is a fantastic and stand alone accomplishment. However, that said I think whoever does make it above 540 km will no doubt be eyeing off 'first to 600'.

Yes but I have 2 lights so I would really have 2 dicks attached to my boom
