It is very hard to see why the device Julien is proposing would not pass GPSTC approval with flying colours, but thought I should mention that it will still need to do so. I have asked Julien to send us a sample ASAP for confirmation testing.

Yes, good point, Daffy. Non-compliance would put a bit of dampener on things. As I assume the device would share much of the componentry of the already approved Motion I'm sure it would be ok.
Julien, regarding the Motion, have you considered possibly asking for deposits or alternatively looking at crowdfunding for the device? The demand seems very strong and it would be a shame if the device was not to reach full production due to a lack of resources/funding?

Hi Julien, I have confirmed order of 6 for the Pinnaroos team in WA. Please let me know when you sort out deposit/payment requirements so I can coordinate from my end.

Yep. "160 AUD per device, paid on order"
nothing ambiguous about that, it doesn't mean a deposit

I'll reply to everyone now. If I missed your email/message, please send it again.

I did consider crowdfunding for the regular Motion but :
- paid vs unpaid orders are a whole different level of stress,
- I can do it on this one because I'm sure to deliver, which wasn't/isn't the case for regular Motion,
- crowdfunding was in a terrible place at the time. Loads of impossible projects and loads of fundees running away with the money.

The base block will be the same as regular Motions.

If I recall correctly, no one in Australia has ever been asked GST on Motions.

Hi Julien,

Order confirmed for the Tassie Speed Seekers for 5 units (might still be more, but keen to get this order for at least 5 in).

Obviously a great question... cause no one had the answer yet.

Maybe an accelerometer inside, turns on as soon as it's moving, turns off when it stops??????????????

Or the phone wifi wakes it up?

I considered all my options (like accelerometer, buzzer, hall sensor, capacitive button, toggle switch) and found them all inferior to a tactile button and a LED so I'm back to the old faithful. They are just a pain to install.

Teams who'd like 10 or more are welcome to pre-pay half of them.

Thanks everyone, I'll order custom pars tomorrow.

Just transferred Euro payment to Julien for the Pinnaroos order.

Simple tactile toggle button & LED works for me Julien. The simpler the better. Any idea on what the battery life will be for these units (assume rechargeable via USB?).

Or will these use inductive charging + bluetooth connection for transferring data, instead of USB?

Quick note : I opened an AUD bank account to avoid exchange rates and fees. I should have done it earlier but I really didn't think it was legal/possible for me to do before so sorry to those who have already paid.

It's also possible I'll move from FedEx to French Post (6-9 days) next month. They are approximately the same price *but* French Post price is constant whereas my FedEx invoices are riddled with extra fees, sometimes doubling the initial fee.

I've sent an order today for some for us South Coasters, Gustbuster's and Illawarra Speedsters, I ordered a few spares so if anyone around Sydney or south coast or central coast crew would like one and not yet in a group order let me know via a PM and I'll hold one for you.

thanks Julien

Magnetic reed-switch -> normally-closed when not near a magnet. Supply a small magnet which acts a bit like a key - when it is attached to the case, the GPS is disabled.

Then you can seal the case to be water-tight.

Yep thank you I thought about it but :
- I need more than two states,
- common neodymium magnets rusts, small ferrite magnets would fly away, (I forgot about potted magnets),
- it would drain the battery on a false positive,
- no magnet, no party.

And, after wasting time thinking about this part, I remembered I never had issues with water or the current button seals before.

Big question for me Is the Motion with screen likely to happen I ordered and want one with on water feedback. I don't have a Garmin watch and don't feel like being broke getting one.
Great idea still to have basic device as well and appreciate that you want the product correct before sending them.

cheers

I understand Julien has every intention of getting the Motion going again, but I dont think there is any answer to 'when' yet. There are too many unknowns about the sourcing and redevelopment for a different screen.

In the meantime, there are a couple of apps for Android phones (definitely use a very cheap one) that can give great OTW feedback. GPS-Logit will even 'speak' your speed and give 'last run' announcements. Not good enough for GPSTC posting, but plently good enough for OTW feedback and it gives all categories.

And the GW-60 is still a great alternative for many people, as long as you use it with the caveats that have been described in other threads numerous times.
