The board is there to take for a spin if you're keen but unless Lake Illawarra runs a day care facitility and I can get over my fear of not walking again I'm land locked.
Sam.
I'd say we all get a little concerned sailing in shallow water, but in Lake Illawarra's defence the depth is predictable. With a little bit of familiarity you won't get taken by surprise.
So a good couple of questions are:
How much water do you need for the bottom not to add further to the crash consequences?
How much more (or less) dangerous is crashing in ankle deep water than crashing from a push bike?
I vaguely recall reading about someone getting seriously injured hitting a sandbank. I've also seen 3 really fast crashes in unexpectedly shallow water at Sandy Point without serious injury. Not statistically significant I know.
I've made a bit of an arbitrary call on 500mm, knee deep, being deep enough that you won't complicate the crash by hitting the bottom.
