Mathew,
I just checked forecast too and it's not looking good for Thursday Friday next week although maybe Saturday, Sunday & Monday will be better. I actually got my leave pass yesterday for GI Speed week and like last year I think my wife controls the wind up and down the coast of Qld.
This is for 6am on Friday.

PS - If forecast looks better by this Sunday and decide to make it, does anyone want to share room on GI for say Fri, Sat and Sun nights. I may also need some windsurfing lessons when I get there.

windguru usually underestimates the wind by a significant amount. 12 knots forecast should be at least 20, 15 more like 25-28 and 19-20 on windguru should be a solid 30knots or higher. does depend a bit on what the weather is doing though. if there is rain around the wind might be less and a bit squally.

does look like not much is going to be happening at this stage on thurs-fri but the usual cycle is about a week of wind before two days of nothing. then it cranks again...

Shame my trusty side kick, el Choco won't be there to assist. Stand up idiocy comedy is always harder on one's own.

Okay - now that I'm coming I have a bit of a dilemma deciding which two boards to bring (options are iS 122, 101 & 76). Having a look at the forecast I was thinking my iS101 & iS76 with sails from 7.5 down but any advice from someone with local knowledge would assist. It is still looking good for Sat and Sunday but has ever so slightly decreased from yesterday's forecast.

That's the million dollar question Snags, normally I'd say the two smaller but at this stage I can't see a 30 knot blow, go the bigger boards. If it does blow it's arse off you can still use the 101 ? but if not the 122 will come in handy. That's from a clown who's never used an Isonic and the only board I ever use over there is my 96L CA SL58

Not a lot of wind today but
good looking forecast for the rest of the event ...
Just got back from a quick trolling session on Arlington -boys landed a nice Gold Spot Trevally & small cuda.
Some fast boys from Melbourne are here so it should be fun when the wind kicks in ...

Hi Jodi-thanks for the post ...Great article !!!=well done on the coverage .

GISW Day 2.
Steady 18-20 knots,2-3 hrs of sunshine ,an operational Northern Run followed by a late session on the Eastern Run made for a great day on the Island.
Best times were in the 33-35 knot range with 2sec PBs being recorded by some of the competitors .
Tomorrow looks better again so expect more smiling faces -especially from the Melbourne Boys who had a ball today .
Sail sizes varied from 4.9-8.6.
Board sizes from 83 l -110l

BUgger !!
I'm sitting on my duff at Mareeba today and all I can think is that with a bit more effort, I could have been at GI today. On call tonight and tomorrow, so I don't like my chances of changing that.
What time do the ferries run ?
