Guys and Girls, I approached Locosys in regards to the freeze issues suffered by end users with the GT-31 Navi. The reason was a considerable number of end users have not enjoyed the same level of operational functionality as those of us who purchased the GT-11 Navi, (prior model) to the latest model the GT-31.
Locosys did come back with a possible solution, and I have posted it below. I am not that knowledgeable with these systems, I can get by most times. For the propeller heads (mean that in a good way) you may understand the intricate systems on the GT-31 far better than me.
So for those who have in the past suffered freeze issues, have loaded the solution, can you come back to me, or direct to locosys with results.
For those who haven't yet loaded the patch please do so and give some feed back as well. PM me if you need any more help, but they need feed back to resolve issues like this when they have a patch.

We have a patch version (V1.3) for the frozen issue caused by flash memory logger.
You can either download the F/W from the following websites:
www.locosystech.com/download/handheld/GT-31/GT31_FW_V1.3B1015_DVT3.ZIP
http://mtbest.net/setting-up-navi-GT31.htm (for windsurfers)
But be noted that the maximum log points for "DATA LOGGER" function after F/W version V1.3XXXXX is changed to 16384.

[u]We also did many tests on this V1.3 version, which seem to us that solved freezing situation, but we haven't got many feedbacks from users on this yet.
Can you help check with GPSTC groups if they tested V1.3 and also suffer freezing situation?
If so I need to know the setting of the device, users can "Clone" the setting from Navilink and send it to us for our analysis.
We will do our best and give our feedback in a very short time.
So, if you can gather these information for us, that would be grateful.

On behalf of LOCOSYS, we appreciate your continuous support on these series product and providing your feedback and thoughts.

That's very positive mineral, well done.

I bought a 31 a few weeks ago, and straight away loaded the latest firmware from the Mt Best site, which was 1.3B1123T. So far I've had no problems, but it's very early days.

So looks like Tom's latest version includes the freeze up patch, all the more reason to update your firmware folks.

Including the great new font, that's easier to read, and the max history display in speed genie. This is fantastic, shows the maximum speed since last reset, along with the previous run stored. (I think, not completely sure, what the 2nd # is). then you can choose what to include in the other scroll throughs,

So which is the latest firmware V1.3B1015 from the Locosys website or V1.3B1123 from Mt Best website.
I loaded V1.3B1015 onto my new GT31. One sail only with it and had no freeze problems but the unit on several occasions asked me to save file to card, not sure if this was a result of the paqua pushing on the toggle or just a firmware issue. Will reload latest firmware on answer to above and see if problem persists.

I have also just recently purchased a GT-31 and I am using latest firmware from the Mt Best site, which was 1.3B1123T.
The large font display is excellent for those who need reading glasses like me.
No lockup to date will continue to monitor.

Nebbs, I think you need to update the guides as a the links for the GT-31 are out of date. I used Tom's site for all the set-up as the others seemed a little old or nor relevant to the GT-31.
Must thank Dr Tom again for the brilliant set-up guide and firmware download.

Yes Toby, I have tried several times to load the Version 1015 and get the same
error message.
Lyn's unit is working good with the 1123 firmware and for the moment I will
leave it that way.
Mineral I informed Locosys of our position and they acknowleged.
The more feedback to Locosys the better.

Hi Toby,

Try installing the latest updater. I'm running V0.61 and it worked OK for XP.

Frant I always lock my toggle switch, if you don't know how just hold down the toggle for a couple of seconds, same to unlock or just turn off.

Cheers Bob.

After downloading the new patch firmware (V1.3 B1123T) my initial freezing issues (see below thread)seems to be resolved. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=57586&SearchTerms=dreaded,freeze
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=58243&SearchTerms=GT-31
I have now sailed 15+ sessions since update and it hasn't frozen (yet)

As Mineral has mentioned the data logger doesn't record as many points (less hours of sail time), but this is a small inconvenience to having the unit work as intended (and expected).

What is going on with the Navi vs Garmin, doppler vs track pt debate...

Sorry to bring this up[}:)] But, seems funny to me to get rid of the Garmins, when there are so many problems with the Navi

Don't forget to switch keylock on in settings first. Go settings/holdkey/keylock, then holding down the toggle switch will keylock.

The only problem I've got with my 31 is that it isn't fast enough. Apart from that runs like a dream with the B1015 firmware( so far)

Hi all,

As visiting from the Netherlands I saw this thread about the new GT-31 firmware.
I noticed that some of you have problems by updating the new firmware ( The error 1 issue ).

Here's the solution:

Make sure when your GT-31 is connected to your pc, but don't put it in Navilink mode. In that case you won't be able to update.

In menu on the GT-31 go to:

1. Settings
2. Version --> Update
3. Choose "yes".
After that nothing happens and it looks like the device freezes, but's that ok. Don't worry...

Now go to your update installer, choose the correct COM port, leave the program to "normal".
Browse to the new firmware --> select the firmware --> execute.

Now things should work just fine !

Best regards,
Jeffrey

Hi Jeff, I am using GT-31 Updater Ver 061.....but still can't load V1015.

Just can't see why not.

Not the end of world as both our Navis seem to be over the freezing problems with
V3 1123t.

Herbylyn;

Just to check this issue, I "downgraded to the last firmware from http://mtbest.net/setting-up-navi-GT31.htm, but then something strange happened...

No matter what I tried, constantly got that #@!* "error 1" thing.

So I thought, something is wrong. Before I tried to update, I configured the GT-31 by reading this article on www.locosystech.com/download/handheld/GT-31/GT31_Manual_20090402.pdf, after those settings.....no update possible through the updater.

Therefor there must be something with the settings. So I returned to mtbest.net/setting-up-navi-GT31.htm and fixed all the settings again !

Believe it or not; after that, I tried the update again and VOILA...downgraded to GT31_FW_V1.3B1123T.ZIP (nov 2009 ).

After that, I did a new upgrade to GT31_FW_V1.3B1015_DVT3.ZIP...worked again.

Still....if you want the new large font and some more choices in the misc menu, I would say,go back to the GT31_FW_V1.3B1123T.ZIP.

Remember to install the USB driver!

I was getting the error message referred to above, then I installed the USB driver I downloaded from Locosys (GT-31 USB Driver Only for Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista), and it worked.

Check which port you're connected to using the Device Manager.

All

I have read the above thread, but I am not clear what fireware version to use as some people are opting for a given version. Just to follow up Frant's question above, does V1.3B1015_DVT3 supercede V1.3B1123T ?, or are they forked versions that are both current ?

Thanks

I think V1.3B1123T is the windsurfing version from Tom Chalco, the font and speed genie have been tweaked.

I haven't tried the other version, so can't be sure if it's also got the speed genie history window. I find this really useful. the screen scrolls between current run and the best result since last cleared.
There's also the neat "clear all" facility on start up.

I'm using V1.3B1123T and no freezing so far.
I like the big font and 'delete all' function.
Also the rollover time on the speed genie display screen seems to have slowed down over GT11 which gives my slow mind more time to absorb what its telling me.

Have you tried the card on your computer, does that say the same thing????
Have you looked at the card lock?????
I forget now where it should be, just try it in both positions.

On the card, where it says the word 'lock'

If you are looking at the top of the card with the cut-off corner to the top right, the lock slider should be on the top left and from the one on my desk it looks like you need to slide it down/towards you to lock and the other way to unlock.

Just for interests sake, these 'locks' are purely based on the reader (computer or GPS) looking at the physical presence of this slider and disabling writing to the card. They are not electronic, but only mechanical.
