If your Kode Freewave have the option of 2 back straps, then I would recommend this, for a sail in the 7.0-7.2 range. You just have a bit more sail power to deal with on a 109L board and to be a little further out on the tail with the back foot (2 strap positions), would be a better trim.

Both the Enduro and Vmax has excellent feedback.

Enduro has 5 battens. Vmax 6 battens.
Vmax is more towards a freeride / slalom, where Enduro is towards freeride / wave. I hope that make sense

If you are fixed on only 3 straps, then I think the Enduro is the pick (for the reasons you mentioned yourself).

New to this forum. Having the same considerations as you. Looking for a 7,0-7,2 sail for light wind (flattish) coastal sailing. Please let me know your experience with the VMax. Im a little surprised no one is mentioning what board the sail is to match.
My use will be on a 109L kode Freewave (3-strap setup) and Im more or less fixed on the Enduro freemove sail or similar.

I guess the freemove-like Enduro have a higher - and more forward - centre of effort (better for 3-strap setup I suppose) while the freerace VMax would be lower and more in the middle (putting more pressure on the board and need to be sailed more from the fin -> outboard straps)?

Please let me know your thoughts?

my board is a 125lt freemove / freestyle wave board. wide and thin with the option of 1 or 2 rear straps. i'm planning on using the vamx with 2 rear straps anda 38cm fin. i' can't give you any feedback yet though as i'haven't picked up the vmax yet. this saturday is the day.

i'll report back once i've used it. in the meantime i've not heard any bad comments about simmer from the guys i know that've been using them for 5-6 years now.

Simmer is great. Thats for sure. Very common these areas.
Kode Freewave is US box limiting fin size of approx 32. Not sure that be enough for outboard sailing in light wind and 7 sqm - I assume. (85kg)

You may find 32cm too small for light wind

maybe try a 36- which are available in US base. You should be ok at that length and not roll the box out.

with my board I can feel the 36cm rail pressure more than 32cm with single strap setup. Its ok though so I use the 36cm with single strap as my default light wind in 12-18. I'll give it a go with the 7.2 when I use it.

used the 7.2 VMax today for first time in 12-20 knots with a36cm mfc freewave. planed the whole time except for one big lull.

killer setup. super stable rig in the air. looks like a cam sail on the beach with big obvious draft.

pretty sure ill never use a cam sail again now and thinking the 8.6.....down the track but id need a bigger board too.

next simmer for me is a 5m wave sail. blacktip or apex is probably the right choice but i wanted to throw the tricera in the mix

has anyone used the 5m tricera in fully powered conditions. the Simmer website suggest it for lightwind float and ride which i'll use it for on a windsup but i'll also use it in 25-30 knot bump and jump.

keen on opinions and comparisons.

I've used the 2017 tricera and found it very different from the 3 batten sails I've used in the past (Fringe), it had very specific handling characteristics. It worked awesomely well DTL in goods waves and I think it would suit light weight sailers or someone that is really good at surfing their board as from the second you drop in that sail is gone and you just surf.

I have the 2020 icons and love them for their stability and drive, They suit everything I do form DTL to lake blasting. The new ones have a more direct power up feeling (very grunty) compared to the 19's which had a smoother power up and softer overall feeling to them.

The blacktips are also great, if you sail strong consistent winds and love to jump the go the blacktip.

A while back I grabbed a 2nd hand 2019 5m blacktip. Got to use it on the weekend for the first time. Conditions were choppy bay and super gusty 12-25 knot westerly. Punter level sailing.

Bloody love simmer sails. The 5m blacktip was excellent. Probably put it in the special category. Be interested to try the 2020 model.

it seems simmer sails all have something in common which is a balanced feel and smooth power delivery. The balance is noticable whether dredging or lit up on the edge.

The thing that stood out with the 5m blacktip is how calm it is to sail. Blasting along it just gets out of the way. Smooths out the chop and gusts and becomes weightless.

When turning the sail went wherever I pointed the board and gybing was easy. Again the sail gets out of the way and then powers on smoothly when you need it.

Great fun sail.

I used a Ezzy original mast. It set and sailed fine.When a newer HSM QU4D 5.0 shouted at me, I replaced the Simmer.
this was the one and only I ever had.Nothing but good stuff on the Simmer.
it really would depend on the size and intended use for potential use. If a larger , say 6.0 -up, Freeride I would look harder at others.
