Other arguably even more niche sports get plenty of free to air tv time, comparably. Here's hoping Grae being right up there will get us some more.

Wow you aren't joking, that's ridiculous

The Blokes probably holding $25,000 of potentionally consumable camera gear to get this shot + would have back up camera (maybe 2) and other lenses in the $4,000 - $14,000 range to cover an outdoor sporting event, then would need to get there and pay for access to events etc and food, accommodation, insurance, rofesional membership fees etc. (unless he is being paid to be there then whoever is paying would need to recoup costs)

I run a little photo business opposite end of the spectrum $30 for 1 x low resolution 5 x 7 print I can lose $2000 of camera and lens + customers images due to water damage on a bad day

Wedding photographers would charge $2,000 - $10,000 for a day or even more

I am way to excited about this final... from 8.20 pm earliest possible start AWST. Looks like a windy arvo in Marseille according to www.windy.com/?43.172,5.547,10

Scary, but even the best get it wrong - in the women's skiff the first two boats just went to the wrong finishing line. The Dutchies dropped from 1st to 4th but seem to have still won the gold.

The French were in the top 2 most of the series, dropped to 3rd in the final and were still absolutely elated to get a medal. It's great that Grae is assured of feeling that emotion no matter what happens in the final.

Girls are racing first and they've now delayed it to 2.45pm (10.45pm AEST) as the wind is too light...

...going to be a LATE NIGHT everyone. Boys won't start till at least 1.5 hours after the girls.

Might be time to prepare to watch it tomorrow night.

The mens Lasers have been out there and the boat that almost won the last race hasn't been in the top 33 before that one, so obviously the wind is all over the place. Probably a good idea to keep the boards ashore.

Got too hot for a seabreeze. They canned it for the day.

Tomorrow is a spare day so they'll try again.... much better forecast.

Considering how dominant GB has been in the women, it seems damn unfair that she lost it all in one leg of one race. Four years of work getting down to the timing of one tack.....

I forgot. Is this finals system unique to IQ foil or other olympic classes have the same?

Coverage package is pretty povo. Commentators gone on a coffee break, no live audio of winners interviews, dead air all over the place- no respect for the sport. I am sure Tokyo had a much better design in place for sailing coverage.

It's unique. The other classes have the top 10 sailors from the earlier races going into the Medal Race final. The MR scores double points and cannot be dropped, so it's still critical but not as short.

Last time around poor Matteo from Italy was in the top 3 in the rankings for the whole five years before the Games and in the top 3 all the way through the Games, then he was over the line at the start of the MR and got nothing. It's worse in some ways than the IQ system, but why the IQs can't have at least two or three races is beyond me when they are only taking about 8 minutes.

Good luck to the Aussie Morris, it looks to have been a close Q series of races.

In the women's, ??if you are going to win just 1 IQ-Foil race at the Olympics, win the final like Maggetti did. Its hard for Emma, after winning 8 Q rounds, over 50% of the total number of races.

Now that WAS a damn good race.

Was it the last worlds where Nicolo Renna went from 3rd to winning up one beat? If there is a regular pattern of people who dominate losing in the finals then it's arguably an unfair system. The racing is good and it's short so why not have three finals?

That was Reuveny's 1st race win all week as well, for the gold.

What a farce. I mean, congratulations to the winners.

I think it was the Goyard brothers who organised a petition when this new format was announced and run the first time.
