Yes I believe we did qualify an Australian Female to go to Paris.
Sammie Costin from RQYS , but unfortunately a sports injury lead to surgery and she was forced to withdraw in May

Ahhh, that makes sense as I thought I'd read she had qualified, but she wasn't listed. Even Googling doesn't bring up any news of her injury that I can find. Obviously her ranking has dropped due being injured.

Such terrible luck for Sammie; here's hoping she can get it back together next time around.

Thanks for sharing this. In the USA, the Peacock network claims to televise EVERY Olympic event for streaming, but I could not find the video of today's race. Yesterday, they had footage of the windsurfers waiting for the start that never came. Still, it was fun for me to see the sailors and all of their kit. Just wish I was 40 years younger and had the skills to participate.

Is there like a live ticker or something that tells you whats happening? tried to tune in twice and didn't see much except for a few skiffs floating around very slowly with no commentary. Also surprised that the fleet is so small after all of the large IQFoil events run in the past few years.

On the 9now app (on my TV) if you go to "Day 4" you can scroll through all of the Sports. Each sport has options to watch highlights, replays, etc.
In sailing the only replays so far are the day 1 racing. Im assuming/ hoping other races will be available soon.

The fleet is small because nations have to qualify to be allowed into the Olympic sailing, and many nations don't have sailors who can reach the qualifying standard. The exceptions are a few developing nations that get a "wild card".

The live tracker is saying the women's skiff course has 13 knots of wind, so it should be on today!

Wow, the tracker shows that in the second-last race people were making or losing 10 or more spots per leg. That must have been nasty.

They had a race already and just about to start 3rd race.

Funny to hear commentator Nina Curtis being so enthusiastic about the fact that the windsurfers have slalom, course and marathon racing. World Sailing claims that it has all sorts of rights to its rules because they claim they created the ideas, but they are quite happy to "steal" rules and ideas from windsurfer classes and the Windsurfer Class itself.

Results after 6 races ... That bullet in R5 helped a lot, he's back in the hunt now.

What a fantastic result so far and to win a race must have been an amazing feeling - go Grae!

Go Grae!! Enjoying the coverage

It was incredible watching windsurfing on TV with actual professional media coverage and cameras on drones and choppers and boats. The graphics showing who was where, with speed etc. were amazing. I've never seen anything like this.

This is windsurfing that even non-sailors can watch and enjoy with this kind of coverage.

All this topped off by a great win by Grae!

Apparently the graphics programme was the one developed by ocean racing yacht navigation legend Stan Honey for the America's Cup, and paid for by Larry Ellison who bankrolls the US team which was full of Australians. It's about the best thing to come out from Ellison and his AC schemozzles IMHO, but it cost a bundle to create.

I must have been his bad luck bunny coz he did nothing til i had to go out and couldnt watch the live coverage.

Agree with the overall coverage especially the graphics but the commentators referring to the IQfoils as "boats" was winding me up.

Anyway to watch the full replay, not the stupid highlights!!!!! Channel 9s app is giving me the ****s!!!

We always qualify windsurfers for every games. But we haven't had anyone make the 'Top 10 at Worlds' to make the Australian Sailing Team requirements until Grae came along. So we haven't sent anyone for a verrrrrrrrrry long time.

So the women are doing the marathon and have hit a light patch where they've been off the foils for ages and doing about 1.4 to 2 knots. The odd thing is that they are not pumping furiously as in RSX, IMCO etc to try to get through the light wind area. What's the go? Do they just go sideways when pumped? I would have thought they'd have reacted OK since the foils are so big.

As I write this the race has been abandoned.

It's the irony of the fact that waaay back when windsurfing first got into the Games, the Windsurfer class (by far the biggest at the time) wanted to include marathon, freestyle, course racing and slalom in the Games and World Sailing said nope. Forty years later the inclusion of marathon and slalom is now being seen a kewl new thinking.

Personally I think there should have been slalom in the Olympics since at least 1992 or so, alongside a Raceboard or something that could be used in light winds. That way you've got all winds covered and also show off a fast, exciting and popular branch of the sport. It shouldn't have taken 40 years to finally adopt that recipe.

It's like having bricks tied to your fin. The foil is such an anchor you can barely move when you aren't in the air. Pumping doesn't help much!

SOLID couple of races! Had to stay up late but they ended up sneaking in some races as the wind got up later...Grae is up to 4TH !! Lots of the guys deep in the field ended up winning races today so that's tweaked the top places a bit.
