Yeh because as said with the new Wind Foils, all of our design team are spending more time Wind-Foiling than Wind-Surfing.

Don't get so offended mate.

Yeah!! Will foiling take on or not?

Foils have been in dinghies for longer than they have been in windsurfers, and so far the actual take-up is pretty tiny apart from around Sydney and in the south of England. There's about 20-40 active foiling dinghy sailors in Germany, the same number in Switzerland, probably not many more in the USA, not many in France.

I quite enjoyed the little foiling I did and the boats are fantastic, but the hype is enormously greater than the take-up. It's interesting to see that almost none of the sailing journalists and pundits who are screeching "foiling is the future" have actually gone out and bought a boat for themselves. That seems to say a lot.

Obviously foiling is here to stay, but it could be like FW or skiff sailing - something that's really cool and fun but just a minority interest.

Today I got to try Wind Foiling. And can I say - WOW. SO much fun. I can't wait for session #2.

The conditions.
Wind - SW. 6 - 13kts
Location - Pittwater, Palm Beach, NSW
Foil - Naish Malolo
Board - Naish Raptor V116 (M).
Rider Weight - 95kg

Firstly, there is no way I would have been planing on any sailboard in these conditions. It wasn't the greatest wind, and was very gusty, but I managed to get a few decent glides. Here is the footage I edited for Instagram (short edit).

Ride safe,

JB

Sail was the Naish Chopper XL.

I was sailing for about 2 - 2.5hrs with no harness.

Crazy fun.

For me this with kite foiling and higher wind kite surfing tops it off.
Super keen to progress in both with fast upgrading of gear.

It would be interesting to see how low you can go with light wind windfoiling. The problem with light wind kite foiling is that if you crash your kite you are swimming in. Chasing extreme light wind can mean mega expensive foil kites that get water logged if they stay too long on the water.

A floatable, uphaulable windfoil would let you wait out lulls or chug back into shore.

Sgree, Its now what makes kitesurfing and windsurfing for the first time an excellent mix to have.
Plus for the non perfectionists convert a SUP to fill the windfoil quiver - just what I am doing.
Foiling is bring all these once oposing disciplines together so just need a bit more room.

James, wonder how they go with weed like you have, or is this just Ocean and no weed type sailing?

LG will have full weed next summer and the bay in Beachport normally has a lot of floating weed so looking at Southend over side of bay.

85cm

The are about4.6kg.

Apparently they are quite fast, but they look like they may be designed for bigger sails - ?7.8m

It would be good if they put in a sail range,

I am interested in the ones designed for smaller sails - robby was on a 4.7 in that video!

Me to I think both styles will be fun, but in light wind I am so looking forward to smaller sails.
