A few days ago on the first day with very good conditions(16-22 knots), and flat water I brake the barrier of 30 knots top speed, after 7 years on windfoil and 6 years on Starboard foil. I use 450 front wing, 160 rear wing, DIM 95 Mast, v2 fuselage, 7 m Loftsails Skybkade and Severne Hydro 79. Rake at 3.0 and shim of +0.75. The amazing for me was the very high average ot top speed. For all of my life I make slalom with fin, and the 2s usually was very different from 10s. But with the foil, the 2s top speed are very close to 10s and the average of the all of 10s. In fact, with a top speed of 30.6 knots, the average of all of 10s are 30.02 knots. I just made in all of my life one session faster in terms of average with fin, on the first day I made the 30 knots. I can sail faster with smaller sail, I thing now I will be faster on foil than fin!!

I'm confused now that I've looked. 25miles (40km) in 63min and 1hr average 11.36knots (21kmh/13.15mph). What's happened here? Isn't a 1hr average closer 21.6 knots (less3min)??

The GPS was all the time on, but I went out the water to make changes on the settings.

But it doesn't add up. How can you do 40km in 63min but average 21kmh? And now you say there was down time too. must work differently here in DownUnder LOL

You are right. I don't know the way this software calculate this average of an hour. I use a Garmin Fenix 6, and until now is a very accurate GPS. The numbers that fix my attention is the 10s , 100m, 250m, and 500m. Can't wait to find a little bit more wind, enough to go with my Skyblade 5.2.

At my local we are aiming for faster than the wind and when we can 10knts faster is agood pace for us. we are maxing out at 26 for now but wind is too light these past weeks.

I know this is an aeon thread. but there are a lot of go fast tips in this other thread.

I'm sticking with F4 but always curious about what tips the Patrik crew might have!

In 10 kts, what are you rigging? Trying to find and analog for my gear (not Aeon but competitor at similar level)

Maybe I can answer: with 10 knots I only have 8.0 Loftsails Skyblade, with 550 front wing. This wing have an impressive lift in low speed, I don't need a bigger wing. With 10-12 knots is possible to sail at 20-22 knots.
Adding impressions, I made the first session in open water with his waves of 0.5-0,75 m. in the middle of the bay, with 18-20 knots, and I hit the 30 knots of speed once for 10 second; but is very scary at this speed to slow down. The rest of the session I sailed at 26-28 knots of average, easier to manage and enjoying a lot. I can't imagine the pros at 30-35 knots of speed with bigger waves like Michele Becker said in his Instagram.

I've been using Patrik GT3 Foil 7.6 from 12-22. 900/190 wings on the AEON Ti set up. Max speed it 22-26. Too scared to go
faster but have noticed speeds increasing. 900 flies gybes so
well I've been very focused on that aspect but now looking to try the smaller wings & sails in stronger winds.

I had a quick sesh on the 450/190 & GT3 5.2 & FoilRace 145 in gusty and reasonably flat conditions. Took a bit to get up and flying and after the initial wobbles it was fine. I felt under powered in the gustiness but persevered for about 20km. I didn't send it and had mid 22knots 2sec but smashed a 19knt alpha without trying. I've been using the GT3 Foil 7.6 so the 5.2 felt very manoeuvrable. Had I spent more time out I think that I would have got plenty comfy on this set up. Looking forward to another big wind to take it out but with power in the sail or a bigger sail. lots of scope in a tiny set up. what board width are you using when it's really windy? I'm thinking of finding a 100-120 foil board maybe about 70 wide. Is there enough extra performance from a narrower foil board when it's honking 20+?

I use 8,7 with 650/100v1/160 .
So 150 with 6,7 and 550 and smaller is a perfect combo.

There has recently been a 150 backwing. The 150 comes from the identical shape as the 160. But it is shortened by 2cm on both tips. You then have a 34cm wingspan instead of 38cm like the 160. At first it doesn't sound incredibly revolutionary. But the 150 drives brutally well. The difference to the 160 is huge. - significantly lower resistance - significantly faster - less of the typical stoic Aeon straight-line running, therefore more nervous and agile. - you should be a little more nimble in your jibe The backwing works perfectly with 550 and smaller. With 650 the 160 works much better. But I think it's crazy that you can now travel with 8.0 at 10-14 knots at 550/100/150. The resistance-free driving experience is just really good. Answer to the question whether 150 requires more angle of attack? According to M. Becker, the secret of the 150 backwing is ..."You don't have to do anything else because no buoyancy-generating surface has been taken away."

Your impressions are very interesting with the new 150. Look like have less directional stability. The new foils of other brands have a small rudder.

Due to the smaller backwing and the lack of winglets, the foil has less directional stability, but is still sufficient. The foil is still easier to control than my phantom infinite and iris r foil. I think you win more than you lose with the 150.
