if you are complaining about sups you need to consider the waves you are surfing on your HP shredding machines boys.

man up and surf proper shortboard waves.

if average sup surfers are surfing the waves you are your a wimp

Well well well Lacey

OK I'm an ex shortboarder ex sup'er now at 50 love longboarding.
I hear what Lacey is trying to say, maybe his delivery was wrong.
Lacey and I go back 25 years both shortboarding, now he rides those
evil sup things and I LB's.
At my local if I see a shortboarder getting all uptight I say hey bud I
heard D-bah is pumping go over the hill and get into it,now this shuts
them up real quick, because as Lacey said man up.

Jesus, what has the world come to when a SUPer thinks she is in any position to tell someone to 'man up'.

even though i realise this all for laughs, i just wanted to point out that the ocean always provides an occasion for each water craft to be effective at some point in time. you'd be naive and ignorant not to realise that. why not just buy each of the craft (short, long, sup), swallow your pride and get out and have some fun. you old folk complain about never having enough time to surf, and then when you do get out there, you complain about being sad because its only knee high and you blame it on being a terrible flat spell or it being perth. well then get a damn longboard or a sup and go have some fun while you can in that knee high slop!

You don't know who this guy is mate, just because it WAS cool to give these people **** three years ago means your way behind.

Watching shortboarders grovel in 2 foot crap makes surfing look bad, ride what suites the conditions and if YOUR that narrow minded I would lay money on the table you surf once a month on your shortboard,Get It Now

So you're telling me that even though I love playing aussie rules, if the ground is rectangular I should go play rugby league (which to me is just a bunch of gorilla's running into each other) ?

If waves are that bad, why not just go for a beach run or earn some brownie points and go for a walk with the missus? No point picking up another sport if you don't like it. Better off doing what you love, giving it a break when conditions aren't right and when the surf's up, be all refreshed and good to go!

Now you see newguy, its NOT a new sport. How can one rip on a shortboard when its 2 foot, but you can on a mal or sup and have a blast, its all the same sport just different shaped ball
PS Browie points are overrated btw,its the girl that should be concerned about that rubbish while your surfing or as you say playing with balls

Meh, if the surf is 5hit I just wont bother. If I'm desperate for a cathartic fix I'll go climbing. I don't enjoy surfing longboards on crappy little ankle slappers. That's just the way it is.

I personally don't actually give a crap what people chose to ride. Same as I don't care who someone sleeps with or where someone is from. So long as they don't sit back and try and claim every wave and cause a hazard like 99% of SUPers do. For me, the real problem with SUPers is that almost everyone you see is a beginner kook or a washed up overweight midlife crisis douche bag with no sense of surfing etiquette or safety...and yes, there are plenty of shortboarders who do the same and they cop just as much from me as a SUPer would.

Back in the shortboard days ay Lacey, 35 years ay. Mmmm as newguy says why would I do it when I don't want too?
I go indoor rock climbing for my other sport do I say that you should do that, no I don't.
If you want to surf fat waves and race up and down the creek so be it I hope you have fun. I have fun when I climb and when I SB so as much as I give sups sh!t I don't really care unless you try to mow me down.
Mac if some wants SB in small ****ty waves that's their prob, who cares what it looks like, I meen when was the last time you posted a pic of you surfing? You might have but I don't recall.

We know just a little fun
If you really enjoy your surfing remember you will not enjoy riding a shortboard at 50+ so does that mean your done with surfing no way ride another craft that gives you joy.

Haha we can almost link your McTavish addiction to this thread too mate. I'm sure there are other and even better shapers of longboards around if you wanted to. Trimming on a long board is fun as is trying to nose ride. I honestly don't see the problem though. If you're ripping and having a blast who cares if they other bloke on the short board is swearing and struggling. Just means more waves for you not to mention you can drop in and it ain't dropping in.

Who's to say that though? I've seen guys older than 50 that have absolutely put me to shame on a shortboard and I'm 25 and as fit and strong as I could ever have wanted to be. I've also been put to shame when climbing hard multi-pitch routes by guys that were pushing 70 and still strong and able bodied as ever.

If the time comes that *I* feel like shortboarding is not for me then I'll give it up. I don't see that happening for a VERY long time.

You mean like making a living out of studying it? You mean like tagging sharks, doing coral surveys, restoring coral reefs in Indonesia, being paid to dive and work on monitoring programs?

...and then going freediving, spearfishing, kayaking and sailing in my 'off time'?

I think I've got my stuff sorted mate. My love of the ocean isn't all tied up in surfing little fibreglass boards.
