It looks like we are all getting into barbs here, I can see his point but at the same time I can see that having a comp there could be bad for the environment. When Ive been camping Ive seen guys who live there almost and some not all have little respect for anything up there. Lots of rubbish ect (could have even been some of the guys that have commented on this thread) I havnt been up for about 5years so I hope things have changed but not likley. I wouldnt mind a comp going on there, its not going to make that much difference in the end two weeks after the comps finished it will be back to how it was before. I would like to see an evronmental impact study done on other comp sites, that mite give us a lead into what this type of use will do to a site like this. Any how off to Bali for a week, cheeper more spots to surf ect.....
I doubt very much it would ever be same if the pro tour went thru, look what happened in La Jolla.
But I do wonder what would of happened if it did go ahead this year? It was suppose to be around early August, I was there mid August and the swell was only vry small and apparently there hasnt been much this season at all. Woulda laughed if it was a flop, might of been the best thing that could of happened.
Ps I've never seen much rubbish up there, but I'm sure there are some d!ckheads around.
I think the only people to gain a benfit from a comp up north would be the crew organising and selling it. In this case I don't think it would benefit the travelling surfer or the crew who live up there. Having said that maybe a large comp at a place that needs an artifiial reef to set up the banks may benefit from such exposure especially around ellection time ie every Perth beach.
Ive heard that a mining company has got a 100 year lease on the place and is planning to mine the place.I think they mite stuggle but they have more money than ripcurl and dont care about surfers! Imagine if that happened
From what i've been told is that the station owners, have handed in their coastal strip back to the government early, in order to guarantee to keep their pastoral rights and to keep a small parcel of land, ie 3 mile and the homestead. Not fully clued up on this arrangement but i know Alanna McTiernan wants to take back something something like a 1km etc?? stip of land from the coast inland, along the entire Ningloo reef. Anyone with more info or knowledge please comment.
And people were worried about a comp going on there, wait till the WA gov get their sticky fingers onto it. U wont need a 4WD to get there or a tent as there will be a sealed road going straight to it with a dirty great resort plonked rite on it,, typical WA gov! Pack of idiots!!!!
ANy one ever heard of the Billabong Challenge held there in 1992????? A little late to be Biatching are'nt we?????
About time someone started talking sense, the RipCurl thing would have been a bit bigger though. I dont think that it would have draw that much of a crowd considering the isolation.
