I have just got one of these -

needessentials.com/

3/2 steamer.

My old Oneill had seen better days and this ad kept popping up on my FB page so I had a look and for $200 + postage($10) it looks great fits perfect and is very light.

If it lasts two years that's $105 per year

I saw one of the crew down here wearing one the other day and asked what he thought about it. Had nothing but positives.

Think I might give them a go when the RipCurls give up the ghost.

Got the boss one and she's very happy with it
Recommended it to a mate and he's also happy with it
Will be getting one myself when my current Rip Curl suit craps out

Have seriously contemplated getting one, but the one issue that repeatedly bugs me is, what about a warranty. As far as I'm aware there is none for Need products. Am even more weary to this aspect as I recently took back my brand name suit to the shop for repair for the first time since buying wetsuits, heightening my cautiousness towards products that don't have a warranty. Was that a factor in your respective decisions to buy?

Risk vs. Reward sparki. I don't know anybody that has had an issue. I am sure some will, but at $200 its worth the risk. If it lasts a year then its probably the same as buying a name brand suit, if you get 2 years out of it then you are winning.

That's the way I am looking at it anyway. Worth a gamble based on the feedback I've had in my opinion, plus I've seen plenty of good comments on other forums to make me think they are well made.

From what I've read through reviews is that they will replace anything faulty within reason, also no probs with size swaps etc.

The size chart seems to be good, I followed the guidelines and mine is a perfect fit, 100% better than any name brand I have used before.

Super stoked on these

I'm happy with mine, but the knees will be the first thing to give up the ghost. Nothing new to my wetsuit longevity, however.

How stretchy is the material? Comparable to rip curl or oneil?

Yeah i have a 3/2 steamer from them, bought it 2 seasons ago for $175 and its still going strong, great wettie, flexible and warm, probably not quite as warm as my E Bomb but not far off and it will definitely outlast the E Bomb.I heard it was started by a crew from one of the major brands that went out on their own.I also like the fact they are all black with no logos or flouro panels,I wish they made a tube suit as well.if you buy one you won't be disappointed.

I intended on getting one but ended up with a O'Neil on sale.

Ok so...

I have been using my Need 3/2 for just over a year. I also just copped an O'Neil 3/2 Psycho 3 TB2 Fuze. Here are my thoughts:

- O'Neil is a LOT warmer. No rubber chest on my Need though.
- O'Neil fits better, it's new, but the Need has stretched (both small size).
- Need lets water in. I don't have the ankle/wrist locks on my Need though.
- Need is light and flexible - no slick rubber, all neoprene.

I'm using my Need as an in-between season suit and as a back-up. I didn't use the Need during last winter as I don't find it warm enough (used my old but top-line Xcel). Don't get me wrong - I love the suit - but it's NO comparison to the $600 suits. (IMHO)

Would I buy again? Well maybe but the current Need suits are $200. My O'Neil on sale was $330. Extra few bucks for a way better suit (again IMHO).

Doggie - what about Volte? They were having a sale recently.

In regard to ankle and wrist seal the new need suit seals very well.
Volte looks like a nice suit. How much Bene?

Bene is right, need suits don't compare with the top shelf suits out there. I've got a psycho 3 and a need for a back up suit and although it's good value for money it's not the same quality. In an earlier thread someone mentioned that need suits are made in the same factory as quik whose suits have never been competition for rip curl or oneil. Hyperride have 2015 psycho 3 fuze going for $349 + 25% off using coupon code "black". That makes it somewhere around $265 for a top line suit

look like great value suits! I can't stand chest zips though, I've tried them and I just don't have any luck getting in or out of them. Needs to be a back zip for me.

Personally I usually get a Rip Curl dawn patrol suit and it will give me 2-3 years of surfing and keeps me warmer than what I need (normally sweating and needing to let cold water in to cool me down even in winter).

Anyone tried the Vissla wetsuits?? Good price at $300.

I went to grab a need essentials wettie today but they are sold out until the end of July. My wettie is gone and need ken pretty quickly. Would love some opinions on the vissla.

Ok, I've had a couple of long surfs in the new suit and its very good. Its light weight and fits well and feels super warm especially once the sun hits it.

Dries very quick compared to other suits as well. For $200 its a bargain even if only lasts two seasons

What do you think think compared to a $600 job?

Heaps better than my old oneill. Its maybe the best one I've had in a while. The two best ones that I had before that were as good was RC Ultimate Elasto and an Oneill back zip (possibly the hardest to get into and out of).

The Need suit is much better sealed than the oneill that it is replacing.

Thanks for the heads up on these suits Darth, my son is at Newcastle Uni, so money is always an issue, anyway bought the 3:2 and is stoked on it. He reckons the difference to his dying e-bomb is next to nothing for warmth and flexibility

No worries I'm glad he likes it. It will be interesting to see how long they last for.

first time commenter, long time reader...

was looking at one of those needs to replace my old weathered e-bomb but they were out of stock, took a punt on one of the voltes ($175 on sale at star) pretty happy so far... good fit, no leaks yet, pretty stretchy, will have to wait and see... rather spend the price difference on a new board!
