Spoke to the rangers who were posted at the main track entrance yesterday, they said most of what was outlined in post above basically saying it was too dangerous ,implied that it was down to a few reckless drivers, they also said that if I could find another entrance that was open I could use it but were not offering any suggestions only ask in the local cafe for info.
It wil be unfortunate if the track is closed permanently , but it will be a good warm up jogging up the beach from the road in winter

The only way into the area will be from another shire, much further drive. I reckon if you stray into Wanneroo shire you could be fined.

Internet chatter implies it's a precursor to them finally developing the area and the pictures I've seen indicate a couple of new homeowners will be overlooking the break. Nothing to do with danger, just to try to keep people out while they develop. Some rumours suggest infrastructure work has started.

What this effectively means is much heavier crowd pressure on the other well known break in the area and probably makes it less worthwhile heading that way. OTOH it could mean rewards for those willing to run up the beach, yes. But it's not a trivial distance.

There has been a few accidents on the beach heading south back from Deers i was told. There has also been a lot of upkeep on the road as it gets cut up and they suggested it was not in their budget to keep fixing it up. If they leave it they are responsible for constant up keep so the cheapest option is to close it

I doubt it will be developed for decades..Also isn't the land to Eastern side still private property

The only reason there's that much traffic on the track is cause they've taken away all the 4 wheel drive tracks down marmion, now there gonna do this with the solution of
"The community is advised to use alternative locations such as 'The Spot"
So instead of 30+ there will be 50+,
Over development is killing it,

Bugger me its gone full circle, keen enough people will be walking in, camping in the dunes under the radar (so as to not get caught as that's most prob illegal as well) and scoring uncrowded/less crowded waves at first light.

Could get a feed of fish after a surf, return to the camouflaged camp and have a cook up and nanna nap then hit the arvo session..

They spent quite a bit of time on it during winter and then within 3 days crew had managed to bush bash their way around the rocks to access their "shortcuts" to go further north.

Not surprised they are closing it really. Happened around 8 years ago too remember?

Not a major deal, as the walk will keep most crowds at bay, not to mention the lineup will be SUP and log free!

Wasn't it shut down a few (quite a few) years back because of unexploded ordinance and the owners of the land (Japanese company) couldn't stand the thought of poor surfers being blown up - read didn't want to pay insurance/compo for anything happening on their land......or was that just a Chinese whisper??????

They've done it before.

My understanding is, it is legal to drive in from another entrance, although admittedly a bit more painful.
They are definately chewing up the tracks though , and there are some crazy drivers thrashing through the area.

I spoke to a 4WD trainer who uses the area to 'responsibly train' 4wd'rs and says its getting pretty dangerous.
The other issue is that users of the area are leaving a lot of rubbish in there. The old case of minority screwing it up for the others.

Its a wake up call for everyone using the area, that whatever you take in, you take home. They've got a couple of seriously ' very local' scouts who are starting to report back to various departments on misuse and littering offenders, with photos and number plates,, with hell fines to pay,,,, so take care..

The reason for the rocks across the other entrance was that it was causing dangerous conditions for 4wd's coming and going due to the proximity of the bend in the road just before that and short visibility. The other entrance is not far away.

ps let your tyres down, keep a safe speed, and be good to the local scouts.

There goes the last of the secret spots in the city limits,, but you might need some serious 4wd recovery gear, and the number of the local recovery guy.

i remember the last few times this was done over the years. A basic limestone track and fencing would be a better way to go, similar to the spot, not that it will stop the hoons.
hope no one breaks their leg in the surf, cause it would be a nightmare dragging yourself back to a car at two rocks

I'd be careful coming in from other entrances, if you check the city of Wanneroo boundary it extends well North of Dewars, so they will be able to enforce fines at will.

Not sure where this comes from, whether it's photoshop or actual planning concept, or anything else. But I found it interesting.

The block sizes are all wrong but it's the sort of thing I could imagine in a glossy brochure looking for investors.

A lot of the civil works has already started for the immediate sections north of Breakwater dve. So I don't think that plan would be too far off the mark.

Derrs is an aberration of Dewars which is actually the name of the onshore reef system that starts about half a k north of Durrs, Derrs etc. Named after one of the areas pioneering fishing families if I recall correctly.

Ssssshhhhhhh secret spot.

Yeah but secret harbour had been on the papers for decades to be built on. But yes i agree it happened so fast once they kicked us out of dunes

The entire development in this Northern corridor is just crazy. Especially as they really have done nothing to help move traffic. For me to get out of Mindarie to Joondalup now in traffic, i can ride a bike faster. In another ten years what then..
