Especially metro locations along West Coast Drive... far out, I knew about all of these places in 1980. Only one south metro spot took me a little effort to locate - only because it needed the right conditions to fire.

Haha lets change the topic - was a great morning for surf. Not too big, peaks and shoulders to be had along the stretch of beach and crowd was minimal. After last few days of more hectic surf, today felt like more of a chilling out sesh and paddle out. Yet girlfriend offered morning sex so you'd sleep in instead of bounding off for the dawn patrol at 6.

Yeah bakesy I've had a few good ones there. I can appreciate your point of view although I'm guessing most crew that surf there probably dont. It's certainly no secret spot but is a lot less crowded than all the other good quality breaks close to Perth. Having said that maybe the exposed rocks might have more to do with the lack of people out there than anything else. And yes I do throw a bit of coin at the local shops. We've got a family holiday house not too far away so I spend a bit of time down there. Must have been some nuggets out there for ya yesterday.

Where I live I surfed pretty good point waves with 4 out, I am about to jump in the car and do a dawn patrol at a reef there will be no more than 6 out, putting vids up on the internet is frowned upon by most surfers who live and visit on a regular basis, it works out quite well for most people that surf round here, had a great surf with just me and 4 yanks the other day.
Bakesy, I don't agree with your argument that exposure helps the local community such as gives the local surfer more coin. All the guys that live down here are happy with what they earn, we would rather have a relaxed lifestyle in the surf. Believe me we have thought of the ways we could make money out of surfing here, but the general feeling is that the could not cash in at the cost of others. I have seen it to many time before, some one buys a business moves into town gets on council makes changes attracts more tourists, sells business, cashes in moves on to next under developed town, town has lost a bit more of it's charm.

Crustt have a think about Indo for example, especially a place like Grupuk. The economy was based on fishing and other natural resources and as a result the standard of living was poor with many of the basics denied to the locals simply based on a lack of economic diversity. Enter the surfer due to exposure of some world class breaks, now the crew have the ability to earn an income and develop basic needs such as health, education, water and better housing. The village elders are very thankful for this extra dimension and although not perfect have certainly improved their situation based on this aspect. Another example is the Gero charter business that due to Fisheries regulations and regular sightings of GWS nearly went broke, thanks to some exposure from RC and promotion by others have now got a hope of sustaining his business, the flow on effect to fuel suppliers and others is also very handy.

Sorry Bakesy, can't agree with much of that, I've surfed round ullu from the late 70's and consider a couple of ullu surfers now in there 50's close friends, they are simple farmers just like there fathers, they don't surf anymore, neither do there sons, it's to crowded. They loved the old days before the kuta boys with japanese money developed it. They weren't starving before surfers came along, granted my mates kids got an education from his wife selling sarongs and drinks at the temple, but most of the money is being made by westerners and Javanese. The people of the Grupuk were far happier pre development and would have gotten by with out it. I'm surprised you held that one up as a shining example of the good things that can happen from development as I would have said hey look at the Grupuk it's stuffed.

There is also quite a few people that aren't that rapt in the exposure that RC is bringing to your state, but it aint my place to get into an argument over that one.

I live in a town similar to Denmark, the waves are fickle in Denmark. I have a mate that lives there. They have jobs, they don't need surfing tourism to get by, they don't earn as much money but there is nothing to spend it on anyway. We/they live there because it's isolated and don't like having to compete for waves, so it can be annoying when some one throws it out on the internet and the invasion begins.

Crust you are on the money.i am not trying to be disrespectful or anything bakesy but I really think you should stop posting your vids. Photos (close up) are maybe ok but videos just give the game away, especially if taken from the top of the hill like some of your vids.
I have mates that have surfed that area for years that are less than impressed. Besides I remember you saying you we're asked by several locals to stop posting videos and you agreed to this (for a while). That's why when I read your post in this thread about small mindedness of surfers I nearly spat the dummy. Besides I had been dealing with a mad Irishman (a client) all day and your post through me over the edge. Anyway hope you score some waves this weekend

Well Bakesy, i hope you get what you wish for and your local surf break gets really popular. Just think how happy all your surfing mates will be now that
everyone is spending money in the local community. Maybe things could go really well and a resort or something similar could open up in front of the break.Think of all the local jobs it would create.
From my experience surfers try to spend as little money as possible when on a surf trip. That means (for me anyway) finding the cheapest accommodation and buying cheap food like a pie from the bakery

I take my own food and cooking stuff as required. Spend nothing if possible.

oh no Oz that would be terrible, the three young blokes employed at the Golf course who can now stay in their hometown think it sucks plus the five or so Mum's employed at the resort think it's bad too. The surf spot is still OK I think. Progress is not all negative and promotion has its downsides, if you've never shared a spot then good onya but the next time someone tells ya that a spot is firing stand by your principles and don't go there.

We all live in a different age now. Vids no vids, secret spots blah blah blah its happening and will not stop, just growing stronger whether you like it or not.
I live on probably the most overpopulated surfing coastline in Australia and I can find waves by myself.
Your all whinging for nothing. Some people on here crying about a vids and secret spots use surf cams because they dont have the spare time to search for waves so WTF.
So because someone posts vids and you cry,how do you propose to stop this in the age of contour cameras and internet?
oh when I was a boy I had respect for my elders,FMD the world has never stopped evolving,it is only just starting to iinfringe on a pastime that we love. Keep up or give up as this ain't going to stop. So instead of crying go searching or change jobs to suit your lifestyle in order to get them waves.....I have....and I enjoy most vids being posted.

Lot of valid points there and I can understand your support of the locals wanting to keep it low key. The thing about Denmark though as possibly differant from your area is it's a tourist town and not a little one. Probally one of the three largest tourist destinations on the South coast of WA. One of the main income streams would be tourism or linked in some way to it. Unless your from farming stock all the crew down there have migrated to the area in the not so distant past so dealing with the ever increasing crowds down there is just part of what we're all dealing with. Denmark aint no secret. The thing in there advantage is Ocean Beach which is what this originally all started about is sand dependent and it takes a bunch of factors to make it happen. Maybe the people who post the photos and videos should just all hold off for a couple of weeks until the bank goes to 5hit. That way everyone will be happy. We all get to see good footage, the locals get there waves less crowded. Interestingly, I was down there last week and a lot of the crew I chatted to were from Margies, another tourist town with similar crowd issues and I'm sure crew from Denmark hit Margies up when the South Easterlys kick in down there. How ironic. It's called sharing the love!!

Remarc, the town I live in is a tourist town, our best waves are sand bottom that can go for months with half a dozen guys surfing there. I've been to Denmark it's pretty similar to where I live, there is a reason it's uncrowded, cause in general it's crap. But sometimes we get thrown a bone and come near my bone and I'll snarl a bit, I've been waiting in this flea pit for months and for a car load of show dogs and grab the only meal we've had for awhile and take photos of whats on the menu to recommend to complete strangers, it gets me heckles up. That said, turn up in a car with a couple of guys and just go surfing, can't complain about that.

How's the docker, and they didn't want to play at the cattery, Cat supporters are still in there seats stunned an hour after the siren.
