Nit picking, adding nothing to a post and being pedantic is your area mate..

I'm just trying to find out some accurate info...

Not the first time he has said it and i'm not sure of your definition of nearly but it is about $50 difference initially ( assuming $100 for the install)

that isn't nearly double it is about 10%...
i'm sure a detail orientated person like yourself would agree??

And after that a new board is $99 dollars for surf safe. They will even give you a discount if you ask nicely...

I assume the install is about the same for each additional repela?

SO is that double????

Asking me why bother, i'd ask you Why be a dick?
At least i am trying to find out some info?

What are you adding to the conversation beside a verbal reach around in support of JB?

I guess I'm also still talking about the shark shield surf 7. Its the only unit available from Shark shield and its still slow, cumbersome and i was told by the owner of Shark shield not to bother, to use Daves product. I always took that as a except able recommendation, from the competition.

$700 for a unit thats not interchangeable..
compared to $470 for the first board plus $60 for each new board after that. Installation i guess you'd pay $100 retro and maybe $50 in a new board.

So two board with SS is $1400 and 2 board with Rpela with two retro installs $730

For a single board SS $700 compared to Rpela $570.. Thats still cheaper. Not quite double but i think my actual post said nearly double..

I find the bias supporting katana in these forums interesting. The two main electrical products are both:

- WA based
- similar efficacy/implementation
- as unobtrusive as one another
- installation not a big deal either way
- both backed by actual surfers
- there's no (public) animosity between them, nor in private that I've noticed.

I talk to both. They're both great people. They both believe in their product. They both put time and effort into their product. Both products seem way, way more sensible than the closest alternative approaches. No matter what I'll still enjoy surfing with them and chatting with them, because I find what they do interesting.

The only difference I can see is one is on this forum and one is not.

Just to be clear, I'm doing all my comparisons against the available shark shield 7. The new unit I've not seen anything in person, maybe Legion you have. I comparing what is available.

The old shark shield surf that's available is that bad I'd almost rather be eaten then use it.
The new one looks much better but still much bulkier then it should be - can't understand why they can't make it the size of a normal kicker?
Has anyone actually used or seen in the flesh the new shark shield surf?

No worries, it was meant to be a harmless question.
When I looked at the freedom 7 surf it was $599 and could be swapped between boards, new pad was $100 from memeory.
So two boards would be $699.

You can't get it anymore they say the new one will be shipped mid september. As you said be interesting to see one up close.

Cpt nailed it on the freedom 7. a good first try but impractical.

And thanks for the comment on the field Dave. as I said above will be interesting to see it when it finally gets released.

I took it for what it was SP its all good..

Getting back to the Modem leg rope.. I asked the question does anyone have any info on how they work or what they do to prevent an attack from a shark Im interested just how magnets are going to do anything..

It also brings about a interesting question as to how products can be made, retailed and promoted as doing something as serous as preventing a shark attack with virtually no scientific evidence

Same principle as Rpela and shark shield JB they have a electromagnetic field generated by electric current, whereas modom is a static magnet. The issue is field strength with static magnet option

Thanks for that..

SO the magnets create a electronic field Wouldn't that make it a rather week field at best

I wonder what output it would be compared to SS and Rpela..

I actually do agree that anything out of the unexpected can be enough to deter a attack, MF's leg rope was enough to show that in J bay..

No, it only lasts one second at most.

bj, buy the most powerful neodymium magnet you can find. Hold it a metre from a piece of steel. Marvel at the powerful magnetic attraction you feel.

Just stick a camera in the water next to your magnet and then burley up out of shot when the shark swims past the magnet straight at the burley...bino instant shark repeller...anyone that reckons a magnet will help is probably wearing a holographic wrist band right now wondering why they still can't surf

Just had the rpela fitted to a few of my boards. The missus and mother inlaw kept freaking out so if it keeps them off my back win win. Wow they pack a punch when you touch it in the wrong spot.

A few surfs and you'll start feeling for it as you tend to adjust your hand positions automatically and will forget its even there.

Having said that, my Sweet potato seems to boot me more than the others maybe its something to do with being so wide and flat

Remember to not put your board away wet into the board bag. You'll pull your board out later and find it running.. Or now i just pop it out of my board.

Interesting article in the west today with Labour Party saying they were going to back and subsidise a personal shark deterent for surfers designed in WA, should they win power at next election. I assume they were referring to Rpela?

I have spoken to Dave Kelly about this nearly two years ago. At the time he said they would look at individual products come time. I don't think they've progressed any further than that..But that would be great if they did support local
But i guess both products technically would be considered local to WA..

It does seem though that government scientists are starting to make noise about electronic products..Vic Pedimors was very clear on that point on the live discussion on Coastwatch a few nights back.
