What I'd like to see happen (as has been stated by others) is for Fisheries or independent contractors to tow whale carcasses out to sea and tag the bejesus out of any Whites that come in for a gnaw.

Secondly I'd like to see a range of detector buoys interspersed along the coast that can detect the tags, much as we currently have in place just a lot more of them.

Thirdly, make available for purchase a portable GPS receiver ie wristwatch or similar size that can be worn in the surf that will reliably inform the owner of the presence of a White within x hundred meters so they can get the hell outa dodge.

Surely this couldn't be that expensive to set up with the level of technology we have available now?

I know I'd happily shell out a few hunj for such a device.

Rodney you should employ the use of a spell checker, at least then your nonsensical arguments may carry a little more weight.

Are you serous. You're that bad a sport that because i disagree with you on something you'll pull that card.[}:)]

Maybe a little help as i checked back and can't see any glaring spelling issues(not saying there isn't any)

Oh and if there is you can blame the spell checker

Yes I'm serous.

You like'd that one. Im so glad you could prove your point so easy. Maybe you need to keep an eye on your own spelling as well, or better still just the ball mate

yes Mick that was it, however, I have sent a reply that will hopefully see Mr Moore make a statement to the SB community. He has in my opinion handled this situation pretty well and the Department have responded to the various bits of information I sent from several leading experts in the field of GWS research, so I'm pretty happy at this stage. I'm just hoping for a Department funded response plan, which will see sightings and encounter information sent to those of us that use the oceanic environment in a prompt manner. The plan is for us to be able to register with Fisheries and receive a SMS the moment a sighting is reported to them. It will require advertising and funds. I pointed out that as the wealthiest state in the land we should be able to do this, I also asked for aerial patrols to be increased during the surf season (which they think is summer). In my game we are used to interacting with both state and federal departments and I understand the way they go about things. The main thing to remember is that things are done slowly ( thoroughly) and with plenty of consultation and discussion (red tape).

Thanks for re-posting the missing link. Glad my kids weren't out with the "large fin" at Cott on the 18th. There are only so many times one can cavort with a large carnivore before they decide to act on the cro-magnon throught "Me-hungry".

The problem is that the sharks that attack really aren't seen until the attack. The one's you see are normally not an issue. Remember that one of the last 5 deaths they actually found no evidence of the attack, only a pair of speedos. No one even saw the shark or a shark or disturbance. Even with swimmers only 50 feet away and on a busy beach.

I think the site will however show a pattern over time that we will be able to make decisions based on the info provided. Problem is that the information provided needs to be valid. I have had many people over the years shout shark only to have a dolphin pop up nearby

I would even be keen to have things like seals or huge bait schools added. That info i think would be very usefull as well over time.
