I had a look at them yesterday when I was in a 666 shop, I thought they were surprisingly heavy for their size.

Personally I think a hybrid type board is the go for those situations. I used to go longer back in the days before wide boards became popular & they just don't come close to the shorter, wider modern options like what you have got/had. Not unless you go like an over 8' mini mal which is better to paddle in earlier, but not so much for handling with the exception of the Meyerhoffer. You get the best of both worlds with them, I'd like to add one to my quiver.

I have bought only custom made boards for the last 16 years up until 4 months ago. Some of the customs were crap because the shapers gave me what I asked for, some were good, two have been that elusive magic board (from a total of about 20 boards custom made). On a recent trip around Australia I bought two pop outs. One, the Webber Gutter Lover, is the biggest piece of rancid faecal matter to ever drop out of Asia. It has no drive down the line or through turns. It sort of sits and wobbles around the pocket. The other board, 6'10" The Fountain of Youth from The SurfboardWarehouse, is an absolute gem and has seen knee to waist high waves at Snapper and 8' waves in Port Fairy (and yes I have photos to show the 8'). It paddles well, hangs in there on small gutless waves (which is what I bought it for), and surprised the hell out of me with the drive through cutties and its love of a floater. It's made in China and when I bought it I was incredibly cynical and wasn't expecting much other than the board to plane on small waves in a straight line. It is my third magic board and has me deciding which Mctavish I am buying for my first real longboard. Whoever's design they copied works really well.

So my take on it is that a Lopez pop out may very well be a fantastic board; being an Asian pop out does not mean it won't be good. However, just because it is a "Lopez" equally does not mean it will be good. Greg Webber should cancel that contract immediately as I wouldn't want my reputation sullied by the dross that is The Gutter Lover.

they know nothing about the board , how it was made what design is the bottom shape etc etc.

What construction is it? Hard to tell from the photo. I have no issue with boards out of Thailand. These days the ghost shapers over there have done several thousand now anyway so no their way around a piece of gauze. Also those top shops have pretty good quality control. And if one sneaks past in my experience they replace them. So no drama for me either way.

What is happening not he bottom? Single to double or flatish? How do you think it will go when its 6ft and dredging? Looks like it will have plenty of paddle power for slight frame !

I like the outline and length,but I'm not a fan of that type of construction, call me a snob but i'm a glass handmade type of guy.

Hiya. I don't post a lot on these forums but do have a scroll through many days - mostly I don't have a lot to say - but if it's of any interest I'm on to my third "midlength" for the year (as in last 12mths not 2015) after an extended period (years) on 9' plus and I reckon I'm pretty close to cracking the magic board for me. By that I mean a daily rider that will paddle really well and perform in whatever's going today in the local area - ie big , small, long point walls, beachies, mush etc etc

For anyone genuinely in the market for something with a mix of performance with a bit of extra length and volume I thoroughly recommend that Murray Bourton is worth a look. I have no affiliation with the guy - 2 of the three boards I've bought this last year have been second hand Bourton shapes and both have exceeded expectations and turned out to be keepers. In the past I've also briefly tried McT carvers, a sumo, an 8ft custom HP mini mal, 7S, Munro lightweight performance 9'1 and that's just what I remember. I reckon the carver was actually a really good board but if I had the money for a custom tomorrow I'd be in touch with Murray in a flash. If I wasn't technically challenged I'd put in a link but google will know what to do. Anyway hope this is food for thought for someone lucky enough to be in the market.

To put it into perspective I pretty much went on a trip to Indo straight off a 9'2' onto a 7'2 Fat Bullet and managed to have an absolute ball in head high lefts and rights. For others in this situation some advice given to me proved spot on and that was when transitioning width is your best friend - ie 7'2 x 22 will be more user friendly than 7'6 x 20 for example. Anyway I think I've crapped on enough.

ted, I ll have a blue one, a sic, and maybe this. I'm sure it was a give me im out. pu traditional construction. single to double, quad option only. I wont be out if its 6 ft and dredging. its not a full gun but I reckon it will handle solid. specs say it will. to me it looks extremely well made even top class

does have rocker- even smooth putting it on the floor. does a have a bit of weight but on the kind of days I will have it out that would not be a bad thing

I had a Fat Bullet for a while - needed a board in a hurry and there was a second hand one in the shop down the road. Was a super fun board that did not mind a bit of size and was a joy to paddle - was a 6'10" The bloke I sold it to is still using it as his main board 3.5 yrs later. I then got a silver bullet off Muz. Must say this board - still have it - has been a major disappointment after the fat bullet. I have been riding it as a quad ever since I got it but given the difference this new set of AM2s have made to my other board I am going to wait for some swell and grab some from the shop to try in it. I will give it one more go before moving it on. Its a solid board that performs adequately and never lets me down - but on the other hand it never takes me anywhere by surprise and lacks acceleration. I still like to be surprised!

I had a look at a DHD Skelton Key in the shop today whilst ordering my Gath. Liked the outline and vernal shape of it. Would never pay the $920 they are asking for it though !

geez people were getting to the shape and what not. but after the cry you had after its a popout ,well you scared the other questions away. plus it is hard to take it seriously,as the only boards you plug are what you get given,get super special deals on or its a shop sponsor type scenario....... as my previous reply regarding the chippy scenario goes was not answered well i have nothing else.

I don't always get good deals chrispy. I've been honest and pretty up front over the years and if a board is good I will say so.

Personally I love machine shaped boards if you find a great shape & can repilcate it easily. That rocks! Its kinda sad these days, coz guys with the skills to hand shape a great board need to already have built up a name for themselves in order to charge what they truly deserve. That's why I've said in the past if I had the money & was not so rough with boards. I would happily pay big $ for certain big brands, coz I know I would get the resale. Actually I did yesterday on a 666, coz I know in the conditions I will be surfing it & the strong construction. I will retain resale value *knocks wood-crosses fingers*

But yeah...I do treat short boards pretty rough & surf in conditions which are more likely to damage my boards. So I really do not like to pay more than $600 & apart from 2 666'ers. The first one I traded for the same price I paid for it new...I've never paid more than $600...

My recommendation apart from the Meyerhoffer, which is actually based on observation rather than personal experience (never actually ridden one). This board I'm on my second one. Both I've ridden in thigh to double overhead. Had the 6'4 & the 6'0. 6'4 had to move my feet forward on flat sections. The 6'0 is perfect for me & I will be buying another one later this year in this construction. Mine is just basic EPS Epoxy without the carbon parabolic & NZ FCS plugs which are heaps better than old plugs imo.

The board is currently at the most expensive I have ever seen it, obviously biz is booming. They go on special every now & again for $475 I know a couple of other people with these who also love them...If that 6'2 volume feels comfy, then a 5'10 of one of these would be good in small to overhead. Oh should say, I rode in double overhead Indo glass which makes a big diff.
