Backhand cutbacks, closely followed by leaving the longboard in the rack when another board might be suitable.

Really ? In my day I always found backhand cutbacks much easier then forehand. Less chance of rail digging in too far as leaning forward into it much easier then leaning back.

On my forehand I am getting back in the tail far more. I suspect I am trying to do a rail carve from amidships rather than being back in the board. It's something I need to practice obviously, but we have lots of lefts here. The rights tend to be dredging pits of death. There are a couple of rights though and I also need to keep my self reflection in mind when I surf which can be tricky too.

Whatever is the problem, me being the main one, the board feels way stiffer and I often catch a rail on my backhand.

Need to rotate those arms then hips ! I love backhand cutties as you can really smash the lip as you come back at it - similar to a back hand reo - then you can bottom turn with pace. I find his harder in my forehand.

Yeah, whatever Ted.

You make it sound easy. No worries on a shorty or midlength, but the 9'4" is a bit awkward and ugly. And yep, like many people, I prefer my backhand, despite knowing it is harder in some ways.

Mine. Listening to a mate and going to a place where the waves were crap from the start . Hoping it gets better meanwhile missing out on the place you really want to be.

But hey I wasnt going home empty and got some. Worked out well

I returned to long boarding after a long time and find I am hopeless at catching waves and timing the critical timing to standing up. Occasionally all goes well but mostly no go so have taken up SUPping and enjoy it.

Any constructive advice on paddling for a wave and timing to stand up would be appreciated.
I have 2 excellent boards ie McTavish Fireball Evo 11 and a Robert August - What I ride. A little more I am 76 kg and enjoy my 8ft SUP but keen to also enjoy my long boards.

matey its all about be there at the right times. this weekend lm was not the place to be.

alley has had all that from Friday on.

Saturday was a dream day- everything clicked

certain swells, conditions suit certain places.

ill be surfing the best places from now on as much as possible . not just rolling up to one spot regardless.

however its your right to only surf one place as you see fit.
