Well I've booked in to get this bloody shoulder sorted mid next month. Amazing what finding a good doctor/surgeon does for your confidence. He nailed the issue after looking at the scans, told me all the symptoms I should have been experiencing and was spot on, he also said the previous advice I'd been given for treatment/recovery would have made no difference, if anything would have inflamed the problem, again he was right.

3 months out after the op though, but a small price to pay for a fix. I can't believe I'm more excited about that than my upcoming holiday

Calcific spur removed, bursa removed, partial tendon removal and new graft, head of the humorous bone reshaped and radially smoothed.

I think that's about it anyway......

Four years at end of this month since I had my left shoulder done; right one 9 weeks later. Similar surgery to you Vanders, no humorous work but had last 15mm of collarbone ground off due to arthritis as well as tendon repair/grinding off bone spurs/opening up acromion (to create space for tendons that pass under it). Stupidly got back to surfing too soon after first surgery, 6 weeks from memory. Follow the surgeon and physio's instructions too the letter and should be sweet. Know the feeling about being excited about the surgery! I also had a spinal nerve block done for the first op- you need no post op pain relief as the arm is totally numb for 1st 24 hours or so- great as no pain/nausea etc. Different anaesthetist for second op so had conventional morphine pump with associated spacey feel for 12 hours- avoid if you can. A trap I fell into after 12 months or so post op was getting slack with rehab exercises- got back in the gym again and now things are 95%. Also started back on a surfmat then kneeboard until sufficiently strong for the pop up. Also, a recliner is your best friend for sleeping in for the 1st week or so post op- stops you rolling onto shoulder. Good luck!

You'll live the new you. A mate had something very similar to both shoulders and he is living life now. All the best.

I can look after that new board if it is tormenting you?

Thats good news Vanders! I should try & find someone to fix my knee that tends to bend sideways when too much pressure is placed on it...I can understand the excitement about getting something like that fixed

Cheers again boys. I'm determined to cut back on the grog, no point going through all this and putting on 5kg while being inactive.

That's what everyone who drinks too much grog says. It's the grog.

My general rule is not to drink during the week.

I usually have a few reds on the weekend but nothing major.

Then a few times a year i get really loose. That seems to work for me.
