Waayyy too far forward, I'd say a bit back of middle with the fin and error towards the back then the front.

Personally I'd run a 5.5-6" dolphin before I'd run the box converter, I've run one and there rubish - dont' hold the fins well at all.

Took me 6-7 surfs to get it right on my O'Donell, hope it transfers well to the new board.

Dont include me in that - eggs are my 2nd least favourite M.

IMO - the best board M have ever had in production was the pre-evolution fireball - hands down, nothing else comes close.

I was just having a good look at the Sumo on the Mct wwweb site, nice looking board and up to 7,6 in length. I like the outline

Mac - my first McT was one of those in a 9'6 and also the first board I ever got a proper barrel on. I picked it up at the factory on the thursday and drove all the way to Mullaway and paddled out in 3-4 and got absolutely smashed on every wave and thought I had just made the worst board purchase of my entire life. I got up early the next morning - headed to Mullawarra which was pumping and maybe 1.5 o/h - paddled out and into the first set wave and pulled straight in and did the same thing at least 3 times in that morning session - very very chuffed I tell ya. Without doubt the most forgiving board I have owned. A mate of mine from Caba' and I also surfed that board in some quite solid surf at back Caba in a comp' and it was a freak board in waves that sere most certainly not suitable for a 9'6.

So - almost impressed that you actually own a board I like

If you haven't spent much time on a LB, and used to a thruster setup on your SB, try larger thruster set like S9 (shapers). If you can't get em over there or want to get close as to thruster just increase size of your side fins to match centre. If 5's still don't cut it try 7's with the 6.5 you have (shapers also do S7's for LB box now).

Definitely slide it back as everyone else already said (always have the front of base of centre fin behind the tips of sides, otherwise you may as well ride as single fin).

Long term you may learn to love the 2+1 setup on a bigger, rounder board but short term a similar fin setup that you are used to should help you familiarize with the different style board.

Hope you are getting some good waves to test it out in mate.

Well you said M3s these are PC3s, Ive got some shapers 60/40 sides or quad rear.

The Mct side says GX-Q and thats what I started with

I think the rear needs to go back a bit as well.....

Yep pull it back a tad. It just looks clustered - you know - like a lot of fin in a small area. The centre is 6.5 right ? Is the front of the centre fin further back than the tips of the sides ? Look from side on - or hold a piece of string or similar between the tips of the sides and looking down on the board from above, is the centre behind the string line. Sorry if thats confusing - will try to take a pic of what I mean.

I know what you mean, Scotty said that in an earlier post. I think its close to what you are saying, I think it needs to go back about half to three quarters of an inch.

Show your pic anyway BB

Ive had a few eggs over the years and what fin setup is the hardest thing, a lot depends on how you want it to feel under your feet.

My 2 cents is it looks ok to me, don't know if I'd go much smaller than 6.5 centre. To start I'd move the centre fin back so the front is about 1.5 - 2 inches behind the rear edge of the side fins and go from there.

Other options
If feels lifeless, no drive try bigger sides and move the centre up a bit, if it still lacks drive move the centre back about 1/2 an inch and see if that gets it going.

If it's to stiff, plenty of drive but won't turn go smaller sides or maybe a more upright centre fin

Another option is, if the fin screw is the flat head type just chuck a 5 cent coin in your leggie pocket and move it around when your out there, bout 1/4 inch at a time catch a few waves then move it around.. lot easier to compare it on similar type waves than over different days.

Its got that allan key screw in it, I will chuck a fin key in my wettie pocket and muck around with it out there.

Cheers SP

Ive still got the original Mct fin but its a bit chopped up, needs some tlc but its similar to the 6.5 Dolphin that I got for it so it shouldnt make that much difference I wouldnt think..........

Give me the full run down chrispy!!
