Had another surf at 2nd Ave yesterday. The bank I surfed Wednesday didn't start breaking until about 10 min after I should've been out of the water to get to work. So I paddled down by myself and grabbed one wave before heading in. Was a great comparison between surfing the two banks. Once again, hit much more speed on the bank south of 2nd Ave, and the board came alive again. I need the time and energy to take both the Kuhio and my 11' Munoz, and try to compare them 'side by side'. I'm starting to think that the Kuhio might hold it's own, given the sales pitch 'inspired by the outer reefs on Oahu's South Shore'.
Surfanimal - what's your thought's on the Kuhio in waves with a touch more grunt? How did you find it?
I got my Prince out into some nice waves the other morning and really enjoyed it; not massive or anything but punchy 3 foot and prob better suited to a different board ideally. The Munoz has this ability to drive hard down the line and the bigger / more powerful the wave, the more you feel the back end slingshot with a smooth and controlled feeling; almost like the tail bites, holds and generates speed. The Prince has a more 'pleasant / wholesome' feel to it; smooth and just an easy board to ride but lighter in the tail. I'd be comfortable up to maybe 4 foot but then I'd start to second guess my ability on it and opt for the Munoz which I honestly believe would hold its own in any surf I'd wish to ride.
Do you travel with a photographer? You always seem to have great pics.
I sometimes think I'd like to have some nice pics of me surfing like that.... then think back to the few sessions I once had with a GoPro on the nose of my board. No one needs to see that.
Aloha, I am from Hawaii, Oahu...love the Takayama Price Kuhio.. I have all 3 generation of the board..I surf Publics 3's Pops and even Sandy beach full point.. Its a great board for glassy waves 1-5 ft. Hawaiian ..anything after that it gets sketchy .. Also it does not do well in thick heavy white wash sections.. I also have 2 superglider Munoz (12ft) surftech really fun boards... As I am 120 kilos, it floats me well.. Fun fast board.. It was based on Munoz Platypus design.. I even surfed this at small Sunset beach north shore. 1-3 ft.. Super fun get in early fade left pull right... Aloha

Sweet say hi the Beersnob808 Pete outrigger on da beach or tilla vision
Thanks for chiming in Chajah808. I'd consider 5ft hawaiian pretty damn sketchy! I lugged my 12' Munoz out yesterday. Surf was about 1 ft, larger sets 'maybe' pushing 2 ft. I tried it out with my Shapers S9 centre fin. I'm reasonably convinced the S9 is too small for that board. I regretted not taking the Kuhio.
