Have been resting the back since last thurs' - haven't been too flash for a few days
Nothing surfable down this way anyway thankfully - way too windy and just not breaking at all. Almost surfable at PB surf club mid morning but only a grovel at best on a shorty. Gunna test the body out in the morning with a sup at the alley but don't expect to get a wave - just a little cruise. I have never surfed the spit - I get a nosebleed if I go any further north than Miami way too many brisbanites surf up that way and they are worse than stand up paddlers

asea, I went down to the sup comp, very well run and Roar need a big pat on the back. The surf was all time puss but some fine standuping was going down.

The only dropin is me falling into a chair as the knee is still shot, that much so I haven't even picked my board up from Polsy. Maybe good to go this weekend I hope.

Yeah, everyones got stylists like that at their local breaks, some of you guys may even be in that category. I really like looking at them but I never talk to any of them because growing up in the western suburbs means I just never had a peer group that were surfers.

What amuses me about them is the way the older ones never seem to progress, and the younger ones are looking for their niche so they always look as if they're progressing when in fact a better word would be experimenting.

I guess that's why you never see the old dudes fall off but that pic of the board without a rider is a common occurrence for the young'ns

Good run of 3-6ft A-frame solid swells this last week on the sth coast. Sat. was just too solid at 8ft to try paddling thru cant duck-dive mals. Has been consistent swell since early Autumn and as a bonus water still 20 degrees.

Same issue here - though I have learned if your in the right spot you can spear them through some waves - hurts when you get it wrong though.

Scored some long rides at a new wave last weekend. Really did not know what to do with so much wall in front of me! Race along near the nose, drop back for a little cutty, get near the nose again and repeat....bliss

Love surfing a new wave, its like starting again when it is a longer ride than normal. Not used to making it past the bottom turn in metro areas

No - was out at my home break. Head high on the sets and really really clean with only a very small crew out. Was on the water at about 6 and boy it was dark !! Gunna rest up 2moro and hit it again early on Thursday - even though its supposed to drop a little I think before the next pulse on the weekend. I have to get in during the week cos I am not sociable enough to deal with weekend crowds

I actually spent most of last week on that other less welcome surfcraft giving my back a bit of a rest. Had a blast at the pass on friday and scored little knee high peelers all the way from the rock to clarkes - very very fast and loads of fun. Back on the real board 2day though.

Still stuffed and a wedding this Saturday so no waves for me been checking out the action and the past few days looked good from a PC view point

The doc said I twigged some thingy in my knee and rest is the best medication
Both hitting my rail twice in the same spot and the extra stress I put it under on the dance floor I had short one on Saturday but very painful.

i fully understand what yur saying about the w/end,i am heading up to Alex Headland for their annual winter longboard comp so you can imagine the crouds out at the bluff. One good thing about the comp is you get to surf with only 3 other guys in the water and especially if the bluff is working i feel it is woth it.

Good luck up there mate - I believe the surf is supposed to pick up for the weekend. I have never actually surfed anywhere on the sunny other than Noosa so make sure you give us the low-down after the weekend.

And

Hey Mac - we must be getting old because I found out today that I have damaged the bloody cartiledge in my knee and apparently its been caused by the huge amount of walking I do as therapy for my back injury christ - I can't take a bloody trick at the moment. The knee specialist told me that my biggest problem is that I have a 25 year old head and a 45 year old body and thats causing me problems Oh well - could be worse - at least I still have my looks

Any one have a thought on what the pass (or other waves around the area) will look like this coming weekend?

Forecast is calling for a big south swell - need waist to head high for my partner in order to get up there.

Mate we surfed it last friday and it was knee high plus but not much better. The pass doesn't do well with any amount of westerly on it so if the forecast is for s/w or similar then I wouldn't hold much hope even with the swell increase. If it goes more south or s/e I reckon it would be worth a go. Wategos has been pretty much dead flat but Broken has had some cruisey little one on the point and a bit more punch up the beach. I would think that Broken will be the go for this weekend although I am no expert in predicting Byron surf.

Did have a blast at the pass though even though it was tiny. Got a couple of rides of probably 200m plus.
What day you thinking of heading up. I am gunna hit the pass or wategos this friday so can give you an update friday night if it helps.

Knee highs good - looking for smaller rather than bigger between knee to waist high would be awsome, I'd go pack the car now.

It's easier to get my partner out if it's a bit smaller she doesn't like getting bashed around, and to be honest neither do I. The more time she spends in the water the easier for me to justify getting her to take Friday off and come up with me. I tried the "hey can I borrow your car to go surfing in Byron for the weekend" line - I thought I was a chance but it didn't fly.

The pass is the only place my missus will surf because it is shallow and generally small and the last three fridays she has caught more waves than in her whole life and the biggest wave was probably 2ft (bomb set). I would be suprised if it was any bigger than waist high at best on the weekend.
