I'm actually up there from Friday July 30th until Monday August 2nd camping at Woopi beach.

I go up every second year at that time so I can pop down to Valla on the Sat or Sun to check out the biannual VW spectacular but I often don't even bother to drop into the show if I'm enjoying woopi.

provided there's no howling southerlies it can still be springy weather, although I still make sure I take the steamer.

BTW, I don't play golf but I know a lot of guys do and if you want a game it's about 12 or 15 buck for a visitor. Nice looking course but the main obstacle appears to be all the bloody roos.

A little low on the camping gear but I have one of those three room tents

Yes love ya work bottle shop in walking distance close to the beach, one place comes to mind.Somewhere in NSW's BB great point action and some fun whos in

I have a Mini Webber, 2 burner propane stove, pavilion, 2 tables, couple tarps, couple camp lamps

What's BB stand for?

We're in as long as dates work

(Sorry - I'm excitable I ordered my first custom board today, DC14' - I have to sort colors for monday, I'm leaning towards white with a blue pin stripe on the deck, same as my 9'4" and I like the clean look.)

Can I come?

For a proper camp ground close to shops I always take my big tent that I can stand up in and I don't even bother to take much of anything in the way of food or cooking equipment. It's just not worth bothering about, it's far easier to buy a sandwich or a dogs eye or a counter lunch.

If it wasn't for the fact that I get desperate if I can't have a coffee at any time, I'd even leave the esky at home.

I don't even use my self contained light, just an extension lead and my lead light from the shed because all the sites are powered whether you want it or not.

But I still always throw in the little tent I carry for my buggy trips as a backup you're welcome to borrow that because I have plenty of backup options up there, including renting a cabin.

Looks a bit like this.

Hey climber that was one of the best things I have ever read on seabreeze. Don't let being new to the sport make you think you have anything to prove to anyone. Surfing is a selfish sport/lifestyle and when you are out there its all about you and the only one you have to please is yourself and its a wonderful feeling as you are no doubt finding out.
It is refreshing to hear you describe your fears and f###ups - we all still have the same feelings even after many years in the surf and trust me - there are some great days and hot surfing, but there are equally as many days when you just feel like a day 1 beginner and just can't get it right no matter how hard you try. Thats the reason I love surfing - just as you start getting cocky, mother nature sits you firmly on your ass and tells you to pull your head in.
My favourite surfing territory is between Sawtell and Arrawarra (fave spot). We stay in Arrawarra a few times a year and it's a must do if you are ever looking to base yourself somewhere for a week of relaxing and surfing - and its only a short drive to Woopi and Coffs for the girls.
Thanks again for posting the trip details - great read.

Right BB came to me while I was sitting here at my desk - tosser

We’ll probably (if I have my way) try to head there the long weekend in October for the Labor Day long weekend - take a day or two extra to justify the drive.

We are there for a week in July but def' remind me a month before you come up and I will tee up mac and a couple of mates to come down for a surf with ya ! Actually when we were down there a couple of months ago we had some really good surfs at Woopi main beach and I actually had it to myself for a couple of days cos none of the locals surf there ?? So many options and so little time.

The end of July is not a hard and fast rule for me because I don't really give much off a toss about VWs these day.

I could even do July 10th to 13th, the only reason I avoid it is because it's school hols.

What week in July did you have planned?

It can be done in 6 hours but that's without a break, you should plan on 7.5 and enjoy the drive.

Stop for a read of the paper and a cuppa or two.

I figure it's may only 3 or 4 for the goldy boys.

Pacific Hwy road works are the killer, I've been up and down that road for almost 50 years and they never seem to get it finished.

Doesn't really fit in I'm afraid, looks like I'll probably stick with the August 2nd weekend.

A lot will depend upon what's happening at work.

3 or 4 weeks out from when I know for sure, I may start up a road trip thread.

Just my usual Saturday arvo slop fest and as usual curly was'a pump'n in the morning as I walked the dog.

Tomorrow it's my turn to have the morning surf.

So I'm just making myself as tired as possible fixing spreadsheets so I can get into the fartsack as soon as I can.

I had a good session this arvo.

By anyone else's standards it would be not worth the paddle out but for me it was perfect on my 10' x 23.25" board, I had a blast.

Even did a bit of cross stepping and got to the nose a couple of times, a real big deal for me.

There was a great shore dump just perfect for some inventive dismounts.

I wish every day could be like this one.

Yeh Clarky's was small but the quality out the back was mind blowing at 5 pm and I was thinking geez it must have been perfect all weekend all day everyday.

God I love that place,I remember years ago on a shortie I got my longest wave ever at the pass and it will stay with me for life

Yes fill me in mac news, someone told me they re-vamped the showroom, my mates mate owns the stone shop which backs onto the mac factory. Last time I was there I told him to drill a hole in the wall
