haha Doggie after 14 years of owning the big SUV 4x4's I've gone for the wagon that eats air to run and drives like a real car
After flying in late I just made the shop to pick up and fit the racks, what a drama,it took them a hour to fit and driving home I noticed they put them on the wrong way "s so spent 30 mins re fitting and dribbling over the new shagga wagga [}:)]

I think its on atm 4 foot clean cya in the room.

Swell has hit big time this morning. Laceys (south palm beach) is the best I have seen it for a couple of years with light offshores and a solid 6+ on the face. Oh yeah - this has also brought the obvious downside ( Lost count at 100 at laceys and too many to count at the alley)
It has picked up so quickly. We surfed our mals at a local beachy on thurs' and it was a really nice waist high glassy morning with 3 of us out but same place yesterday was a nasty and straight head high and this morning out of control. I must be getting old cos thurs' was one of the nicest surfs I have had for a long long time and I didn't get my hair wet, it was that small and cruisey.
If anyone knows of an uncrowded beachy that has a consistent waist to shoulder high A frame peak that works 360 days a year and there are hot showers in the carpark and a friendly cafe nearby run by hot 25yo swedish triplets who just love middle aged surfers with no money or prospects then please email or call me so I can start packing .

Some swell hitting us as well, just got back from walking the dog along Curly and the centre is pumping out the occasional 6' set. Saw one shorty getting shacked just south of the centre.

Spotted a middle aged dude getting out of the water with his mal in 2 halves, I couldn't pick what is was from a distance other than the fins indicating it was either a SouthPoint or a Bic so I waited until he got up to the grass to take a closer look.

Turned out to be one of the new Bics, probably 9'4".

He didn't look very happy so I decided not to say anything to him.

I'm surprised there's not more out.

Where I was it was not even a quarter as good as that and there was probably more than twice as many out.

Hey mac !!!! what the hell did you do to greeny !! Flew down there this morn in the driving rain and cyclonic wind at dawn (ish) with my wetty already on all pumped up and what do you know - it was broken !!! Howling onshore slop with only 4 people out between snapper and kirra. I was actually tempted but didn't have any luck getting outta the car. Spewin I tell ya - just need the wind to get a tad less east in it and it will be on. I will try again 2moro I guess.
I am so looking forward to those cold winter mornings coming up and even a bit of rain is nice cos it cuts the crowd down by about 80%.

Gee... I hope it doesn't take to long in recovery... should we send a get well card
Having just enjoyed my first every road trip surfing over two weeks, after finally learning to surf this year (Brisbane to Batemans Bay and return)... life with out swell is not fun.

Cheers

Yes, good idea, should be the rule that no one is allowed to skyte about their trips unless they give us all the gory details. Along with drawings and illustrations.

Please leave out any details regarding sexual conquests, the excitement would be too much at my age

Batemans Bay, I don't think I've ever been there, I did once have surf at Mollymook off a point just under the golf club.

That's about the sum total of my south coast experiences.

Hmmmmm Trip report.. Now this should be funny, as I said only learnt to surf this year.. but havin' fun

Day one travelled to Port Maquarie spent a 1hr in the surf, breakfast (best pancakes of the trip..) small surf, so really good for me and son on his esky lid.
Next two days were spent travelling down into Sydney and then to a little caravan park 8km nth of Batemans... South Durras Beach... Absolutley fantastic place to camp with family... as for the the surf, well over those three days, I spent time in 1-2ft, 3-4ft and one day at well over 6ft. You could well imagine results... 1-2ft little white water rides..fun, 3-4ft hmmm this is a challenge for a newbie
6ft--- I did get applause from some onlookers on my wonderful efforts of, over the falls, extremely late take offs and long swims...
Great place...
Onto Jervis Bay... Spent time stuffing around in very little surf.. main reason for here for 4 days was to go climbing. Nowra has some of the best climbing in Aus and spent much time there. There is a great steak in Huskinson ...

From here, number one son was itchy to get wet again so up to Gerroa.
2-3ft and NO ONE out...NO ONE. I simply could not believe my first day (afternoon) here. Surfed the main break in the corner near the creek on the beach. It was here I discovered I had feet to stand on when surfing...
I bravely paddled out into the white water and sat out the back...after my flogging at South Durras, I was wondering if I really not gunna get it...
After much time looking at the bottom and testing the sand for hardness with my head I finally rode a wave down the line....If you could have seen my face you would have though I won lotto.
Spent two days here and really enjoyed the soft lefts... biggest crowd out surfing was 4... simply awesome
Also learnt valuable lesson... wax your board BEFORE going out... bloody newbie
One night in Kiama... went to "the Farm"....... nice nice nice. Only a small group and surf I could handle... just.

Travelled to Wollongong, spent a night up to Thiroul.. (Good pies here BB).
Just body surfed with wife and clowned around with my son..good times.
Dropped my lady of at the airport as she had to go north for work and this left son and Dad to travell back to Brisbane..... oh the pressure... 4 or 5 days..and all that beach to look at.
Went to Blacks Beach first... great Pizza at the local tavern...dumpy shore break. best bit here was seeing the confidence grow in my 8yr old..getting hammered by surf was no longer an issue.
Travelled to Crowdy Head.... Crowdy... well if Me, my son and I other long boarder was a crowd..so be it, surfed for a few hrs, then onto Yamba.
Stayed in Yamba two nights
Surfed Thompsons beach on 2-4ft......Next to Gerroa this was the best surf of the trip. No1 Son surfed so much on the day one he fell asleep in his wet suit eating lunch.... bloody funny. Woke up, ate his lunch and simply said... "I'm ready lets go".

Had to make a mercy dash back the Brissy for 2 nights.. and then the best...got a window of opportunity to extend the trip, so packed up family and took off to Broken Head for three days..... absolutley the best. Surf ranged from 1-2ft to 3-4ft. (Best bakery of the trip at Suffolk Park..awesome sour doe loaf)
2 of the three days (staying at Broken Head caravan park) I was the first in the surf just after Dawn...
Surfed the Point one day... nice drawin out lines on the surf... for a newb that is
Spent the rest of the time in the beach break. Had fun on a 9ft1" mal and got some interesting looks from those on somewhat shorter boards.... but it was fun, for me and those laughing at the my "unique" dismounting techniques.

Highlights...
Realizing I not going to drown.. when being towed by leg attached to rampaging 9ft mal
Finding my feet a Gerroa.
Broken Head ... just plain good.

Lowlights
.... having to go home

Thats my story... can't wait to do it again.
cheers

Great story Climber - I still remember the first wave I trimmed properly and the stoked feeling - and that was nearly 30yrs ago!

Now I'm trying to get my 12yo into it - he now has his confidence in 2-3ft surf, but still favours the lid over the stand-up.... At least he's getting wet and we're out there together

That sounds like a great trip climber the only problem I can see so far is you must have driven past Billboards and my house and you didn't pick us up

What 901 are you riding

Maybe we should have a seabreeze surf get together

I'm keen - In Aus somewhere with a nice wave, warm water, camping friendly (Cabins for those that think a tent is what you wake up with in the morning) easy access to a bottle shop - that should be the important bits.

I've got the car half packed - well the camping gear lives in the trailer which is half the battle.

I have a Mini Webber, 2 burner propane stove, pavilion, 2 tables, couple tarps, couple camp lamps

What's BB stand for?

We're in as long as dates work

(Sorry - I'm excitable I ordered my first custom board today, DC14' - I have to sort colors for monday, I'm leaning towards white with a blue pin stripe on the deck, same as my 9'4" and I like the clean look.)

Scotts Head is roughly in between Syd and goldy, that could fit the bill as a good location.

Personally, I reckon woopi would be better even though it's a bit closer to goldy simply because it's less well know as a surf mecca and has less crowded breaks.

It certainly fits the bill in terms of camping grounds with a really well maintained BBQ at the beach camp ground along with a pub and 2 clubs in walking distance from the beach and a bottle'o on the beach plus the IGA supermarket is right at the beach .

And a bloody good curry across the road from the Sikh temple.
