Well speculation is probably not the thing to be doing on something this serious. Lets hope at the very least that this person now understands the grave danger his actions can have on others and corrects his behaviour. There has to be hope !

Or comes forward and owns up at best. Cops his punishment on the chin like a real man should..

I can't understand how surfers can get that angry

Every good break gets its share of wankers that are mentally challenged...or think they have a right to every good wave that comes through...God help he that stands in their path...

What type of Sterroids are these guys on, I mean seriously. This is crazy. People get pissed off for dropping in but everyone makes a mistake from time to time. Everyone has dropped in on someone at one time or another.

There is no excuse for this. When you surf crowded waves to tend to expect the odd drop in its not that big a deal. I hope he goes to the cops. The bloke who did this needs to be held accountable for his actions. Sorry to hear about his sight.

be doing some fitout work in the new coolie surf shop( just around the corner). my mate who runs the shop hasn't heard who it is yet. general feeling talking to staff and tradies is a bit of fisty cuffs is one thing, but flicking a board isn't on.

and just about everybody wants to know who it is just in case they come across the nut case out in the water

Good news about the victim's sight.
"Remember me" will now be the phrase to part the pack for the wave of the day out at Snapper.
No more "Oi, oi", "Hey. hey".

If I lived up that way I would want to know who it is so I could avoid the prick. Would not want to share a wave or a beach with him. Despite his idiotic behaviour I would also not condone violence towards him. Would be happy for the boys in blue to deal with the situation. Two wrongs do not make a right.

some bad news. no, the guy gets to keep this eye, but according to a small item in the bulletin i happened to see last night, went something like -incredibly the guy isn't going to press charges and hopes the offender takes a anger management course.

great, now we have a nut case who now probably believes he can flick boards around at with impunity

All it takes for evil to exist is for good men to do nothing. ..Maybe i'm being a little melodramatic but LL is right on the money. do nothing and the message goes out that this is tolerable behaviour

Maybe with the media attention this guy might thank his lucky stars that he has not faced the law and will pull his head in!

Agree ASEA, most of these blokes don't think they have a problem. It is everyone else.

Mix that sort of anger with some chemicals and you have got a time bomb. Evidenced here by this dude waiting for revenge.

Pity we don't have a patriarchal society where the elders of the surf scene could oust him and he is ousted for ever.

Sad situation and a bad indictment on our society.

Cheers.

I think with all the publicity the poor old victim wouldn't stand a bloody chance of cracking the bastard a few any time soon ..... chances are that if there was a "carpark caress" , he would probably end up in the Watch-house ..... good to hear his eyesight may come good after all !!!

This personality type doesn't benefit from anger management. They only learn from consequences that are severe enough, and soon enough following the event, that they will reconsider their habits. Have a look at Axis II personalities, particularly narcissistic and antisocial types. They DON'T learn through contemplation or consideration. They learn through experience, and without adequate consequences they won't change their behaviours.
And they hold grudges.

In terms of the law, it is my understanding that the police don't require a complaint to make a charge. After all it is them that makes the charge, not the victim. If they don't do it, particularly when there is evidence and witnesses, as well as identification of the perpetrator, then the police are avoiding it.

I would be very interested in any information regarding the identity of the assailant.

Well I'm hoping that the law will deal with this correctly as it is a vicious assault regardless of where it happened.
In the meantime however I would at least like to know who he is so my wife, children, friends and myself can at least be aware of this person as we all surf the points regularly.
Time for the local and international surfing community to stand up don't you think? Most of us surf for fun. Do we really want cops in the lineup?

I do think it's pretty sad that nobody intervened. I understand that people worry about there own safety, yet so many idiots continue with this crazy attitude, as so many bury their heads...I'm not looking for vigilantes, but surely a few crew could have done something. I know I would have

No one intervenes because they don't really know whats going on and the history behind the argument I guess.
However an assault of this type should've warranted some response surely?
No ones talking vigilante behaviour. However we do need to control this ourselves in some way. There needs to be a clear message sent out in the way this incident is dealt with.

I agree totally Chrispy, but it sounded like it was over and done in no time..

Of topic, but as for intervention, how is that an adult gets to bash a 11 year old to death, with out anyone stepping in

Sometimes i wonder what kind of society we live in
