The project came up trumps thanks to our builder and Asea the painter made the project come up even better

well I waited till 7 oclock last night but no mac.

I did the criss cross lay up first followed by 2 under coats of sew wax and another coat this morning.

will put on crèam wax top coat. probably 2 coats


sorry mac .if you cant do the hard work first you cant do the cream.

easy that much. in my experience which as everybody knows is very limited , the dearer the board the bigger the drop.

Price is only worth what someone is prepared to pay. Some people get it right and move stuff quickly others struggle to move items for a long period of time. Also luck comes in to it - if you just happen to have something that someone wants at the time then its all good. I find most people on the second hand board market fit into two camps. 1. Need a board today 2. Have been keeping an eye out for something specific at the right price for a while. Macs argument about McTs holding value is also a big thing here - those boards seem to be able to fetch a nice price second hand fairly easily. I think some of Vanders recent board sales indicate that a good brand and an amazing paint job also make things move faster - and for decent cash.

Personally if you ride it once or twice I would be expecting to pay 25-30% less. Some might think that is unfair - its just what I would pay. Would never consider paying more than 50% for anything in the shortboard land that had been used more than a few times unless it was something extra special and hard to get your hands on. I paid $500 for my second hand gun - which seemed a lot. But that board is a prince among boards and I had been searching for 15 months for a good one second hander. I ended up finding it in Perth - but as I was there for work a few weeks later got a mate to go round and check it out for me and pick it up. So happy days.


Mac should be able to provide the most accurate figures here. So Mac - what % discount do you sell your boards for on average????

Ted, just wondering whats your gun? dimensions, manufacturer, style.

Paint jobs matter. And the size of your population. Moving second hand boards can be difficult in the southwest.

Ted I can't comment as I have very little experience on this topic.

Im not sure about long boards, but with short boards that are a few year old, recently i have found some models brand new and for a massive reduction. Like A few model Firewires, even boards like the Nano for only $550 brand new.. When your expecting them to have been around 800 to 900 originally, you see a second hand one for $450 or 500 you think "Not bad" until you compare to the discounted online price..
