Provided the sample size is a true representation of those infected. Its common knowledge most people present asymptomatic, are unaware they have Covid 19 & are not tested. The 0.25 fatality rate I quote is from the "Centers for Disease Control and Prevention" although I admit its from serveral weeks ago when we were at the height of infection rate. No credible source has claimed an 8% fatality rate, its not even that high for the elderly.

I know sports been very much effected by all this but can we please have a sensible discussion without it constantly turning into a A vs B, even if you think your on the A-team (still makes me lol Cobra ; ).

The stats are skewed in Oz SP, because most of those infected to begin with who still represent the majority of those infected were elderly people on cruise ships. Which made it easier to trace, localized the hotspots & we had the benefit of shutting down earlier based on feedback from countries effected earlier. None-the-less that means our fatality rate should be demographically higher, but its not & for obvious reasons when compared to the US or even Sweden. Like I mentioned earlier today, consider Japan in your thoughts. Another island nation. No Gov lockdown, 126 million people & 900 something fatality rate. BTW Japan has the most per capita elderly population & you can hardly consider them to be sparsely distributed.

Captain Goodvibes I disagree, I think we have a pretty good indication of how serious the virus is from our stats & countries other than the US. Sorry different countries report differently based upon their own policies & this has been a big issue all along that people have called for more standard reporting across the board. That has not happened yet.

Regarding the DR that died early on reporting about Covid 19. Thats a can of worms I'm not going to address m8, only to say a lot of people went missing through that early period. The measures China went to to cover things up in the beginning were extreme & widely reported.

You might want to check the maths then..

Even if all of those cases are recovered it still isn't 0.25 or whatever you put up..

You might want to check countries other than the US where hospitals DID NOT have a financial incentive to report Covid cases & fatalities.

Went snowboarding at Perisher yesterday.
Could of sworn I was in China. Place was chock full of Chinese. Don't know if they were students but there were plenty of families too. Are tourists still coming in and staying in hotels for 14 days then carrying on with holidays? All the lift tickets have been sold out online until Sept with reduced capacities on the mountain due to Covid 19. Bummer to be an Aussie and be told to support our domestic tourism industry only to find it sold out online and Chinese swarming the attractions.
I was able to buy a one day lift pass for myself and our kids by asking at the sales counter in the afternoon about ticket availability for the next day. There were some cancellations so we bought tickets for the next day.
Initially I had booked 4 nights leading up to the NSW school holidays start but then checked lift tickets prices only to find tickets were online only and sold out.
So I cancelled the accom and rebooked for just 2 nights just so kids could see snow. We drove to Thredbo first day and they told us at ticket office we could come in between 10-11 am to see if any tickets were available. Then drove to Perisher to have a look and was able to pre purchase the tickets for the next day. The staff at the accom and ski hire places were both unaware of this. They thought everything had been sold out and there were already lots of people cancelling accom because of this or turning up at Jindabyne to be bummed out when they were told everything was sold out online already. Hopefully the people who staff told to go to the mountain to check after I told them our manoeuvre were also able to get tickets. Oh and social distancing up there ...what is that again?

Each & every death or people seriously effected like this poor bugger is tragic m8. No ones denying that, least of all me.

The virus can be deadly to those with compromised immunity systems & or other underlying health issues. I've always said we should quarantine them, rather than the whole population. We could have spent a hell of a lot less money & saved thousands of jobs by doing that. In fact we could have created extra jobs by employing more people to care for those at risk instead of putting so many on the dole. Australia could have done that, I'm not saying all countries could have done that, but we could have.

Like I said I'm not going to get into China. It was well reported that they downplayed the severity & infection rate of the virus. No one believes any of the stats they shared. There's more too it though like how China was saying everyone was being racist by closing transport routes from China to protect their countries. China was concerned about trade & saving face. They work very hard to protect their image. Too this day, the number of internet connections too my website is 3 to 1 in favour of China after I wrote about their development on Serangan island, Bali.

Did you hear about Italy's advertising campaign to give a hug to someone that appears Chinese in the early days of the virus due to China's claims of people trying to protect themselves being perceived as racism. I'll leave you with the ad.

Good to hear you got a few runs in the end m8...can't comment on why there would be so many Chinese. NSW does have a very high population of Chinese residents. Either them or could be cashed up Chinese who fled China early on & got stranded in Oz.

Would it make a difference if it affected young people, of course it would. Cobra the people who have died from Covid 19 could just as likely been effected by this seasons flu. They were elderly people with underlying health issues that exacerbated the effect of Covid 19.

Sweden's a small country with a high population surrounded by small countries with high populations. Better to compare stats with somewhere like Japan which is also an island country, but did not have government forced restrictions placed upon them. They also have a very low fatality rate. Arguably much better than Australia given their population of 126 million with 974 fatalities.

Well obviously I have a closer personal affiliation with Japan than England with 1/2 my family there. I will have to think further about what you've said m8. I admit I have not been following England closely although my understanding is they have lifted restrictions last I heard. I'm not sure exactly what your getting all excited about. New case numbers or fatality rates I'd assumed since they had lifted their restrictions things were not too bad...hopefully they protect those that are at risk. People with compromised immunity systems & or other underlying health issues.

No they didn't, Japan did not lockdown like Australia did, heaps of people did not lose their jobs. The government made suggestions & people followed the suggestions based upon their own personal decisions. My parents in law who are in their 70's were not required to shut down their business & they did not stop working.

Their fatality rate is very low given a population size of 126 million people, how compact the population is, transportation methods, high percentage of elderly people etc ect

How is it a logic fail We just see things differently.
