Ok so you've got a new board, where do you guys start in what fin options you try?

I'm looking at a few True Ames & Alkali options for the new pin tail that will come from Mr Goddard.

get mr goddard to sort the perfect fin out for you...the man has some of the best looking "genuine hand made" fins in the country. plus they are made for your board... That is a complete no brainer mr vanders

Fins are a personal thing and can take years to sort out,oh I'm sorted.
Sorry not much help and very difficult without siting the board imo.

oops sorry vanders..didnt mean to be a thread killer...well nothing stops mac

i was about to post my there was no surf and it was cold,and then i was meh

then i was going to post pics of my butterflied lamb stuffed with oyster kilpatric type deal and smoked over mango wood. I have a red wine bath under it filled with fresh rosemary, garlic and thyme

Whats up with shapers not suppling the perfect fin match with the board,as we all know fins are important they can make or break a board,I just don't get it why they are not supplied at point of sale.

Fins are ****ing hard to make. I watched some being made from beginning to end. With all the big brands ie: salty,alkali etc are all.cmc machined. Does wizz make them from.hand these days mac? Josh dowling does his own fins for boards if you want,and they look mental...pricey but tailor made for ya sled....so I think it is sometimes easier and more reliable to send the customer straight to the fin peeps

Oh and mac please don't think I'm having a crack at wizz......

Pfff

He still makes then from scratch but has a panel beater in Lismore who polishes them for him.

Oh it is rare what mct do with wiz making their fins,I guess my point is why can't the shaper order a fin to match the board so the counter doesn't have to high tail it to the fin shop.I'd be like great got my new board now I've got to hope the fin guys have what I want in stock before I can even think about getting it wet.

oh and you said,fins are a personal thing...so maybe a shaper is more just recommending than saying this the way. I guess it is easier with longboards than shorties? Or is it we are just being conned by fin companies ? i know i have been to shapers and asked for a set of fins and i was told straight out that there was better ones for what i wanted,....it was so much easier in the old days with one board and glassed in fins

RG did recommend and supplied a fin for the last board, no complaints there.

Just following up from the last board meeting at the Coffee Club where Mr Lacey was expelling his thoughts on fins and fin placement and how it can all change the dynamics of the board.

I'm thinking of just picking a couple of potentially versatile fins and just playing around with positioning to mix it up a little and have a bit of experimental fun.

Melissa at Alkali has been great with communication and a few interesting things in the works that I may just try.

Excluding he exchange rate at the moment True Ames seems to provide some pretty good value too. I reckon I need to at least try one of the GG fins at some stage.

not so grasshopper....on a point break they are beautiful. great off the bottom turn..in fact all turns. the champ i surf with loves them on big or short boards,and thats on beachies ....why do you think they are only for noseriders mac? i have only used them in two boards,one being a 604 and the other being my 705,in the 705 it was mental good

I'm a massive fan of the True Ames L-Flex B. The "B" means extended length at the Base, and borrows from George's work... Perfect for our Point Breaks...
If you are going to ride it more on beachies, the the L-Flex would be a better option...

McTavish Fins are very similar... The modern day Tracker Fin is a true gem...

In concept, the following is pretty simple...

If you want a more traditional ride, think along the lines of a 8"+ centre fin, like a L-Flex or (B), or Greenough Fin... With or without small side biters....
A more modern ride, think 7.5" or smaller, with 4" side bites... Or 7" plus 4.5" side bites...

Which board are you relating that comment to mate?

I'm looking for something for the RG pin.

generally that kind of fin.

not a fin im into or had much success on any type of boards 666,s included.
