Exactly, buy a Tak and you're still supporting the Australian surf industry just as if you go down the road and buy a McTavish

Like in some franchise agreements ,you have a minimum monthly spend with head office, if you don't reach these targets the legal letters start rolling in.

But we're talking different goals Lacey, high volume shortboard production is a different game. Those fondling a CI neckbeard won't be calling Mick Mackie anytime soon.

Bryan Bates, Corey Munn, NPJ, Dick van Straalen,Ash ward etc don't want to play that high production machine cut shapes game. These guys limit their weekly/annual production.

Inevitably some will get caught in no man's land but if you want, creativity and a quality handshape, there are and will be plenty of homegrown options.

Lacey it sucks having heavy weights standing over you as you slog your guts out week in week out.
It at times could feel as if your not running your own business.
So yeah not cool but thats a fact of life small business owners have and then theres the landlords.

Be great to see the actual numbers. Aussie shapers are exporters too, wonder the $ value of imports vs the $ value of exports.

Admittedly some Aussie brands build os but still be interesting to find out if we are a net exporter or importer of surfboards and what % that is of the total market.

I think the American labels in midlength is a small percentage, same as it has always been. Of the boards I've bought in 25 years. 3 are American shapers made in Oz with Australian bits sold through Aussie shops. I wanted a bonzer. I have a Campbell Bros, I've wanted a c bucket for 15 years before I got one.
They were long time wants.

I've bought many times over more aussie boards than os or os branded boards

Surfing has always, well from the 70s on, had overseas brands made locally under license. Their are just more of them. Saying we should stop imports is like saying Hayden and JS etc should not sell boards in the US or Japan. Admittedly a lot of these boards aren't produced locally where they are sold but still its a local based company and profits are returned and spent here

Yes. If we are talking mid lengths, it would be interesting to see what the percentage is . Especially in those funky glassing shops mid to north coast nsw

personally I love looking at the US boards , its great to see the shapes coming from there . plus as I assume your talking in part about the christensons, that are made in Sydney at Rhino, they are quality all the way and its paying wages to some very talented people! sure some goes back overseas ,maybe it takes work from local shapers, or is it giving ghosting work to them? ****, people have big quivers these days n im sure if they are dropping 2 g on a board they've paid for a few Aussie shapers boards too, but **** who knows hey.
