I prefer a thruster set up in my longboards or a single when im on the points. going to give my upright Clearwater 7 another go in the whalebone instead of a single this weekend.

sp could you post a pic of what you use for a screw please mate...which again makes it hard as different fins use different sized threads

the hamster log

Those logs look like pop outs.

Lacey... I love the look of those Hamsters (it's a great clip -- would just like to see a bit more paddling in it, to see how it goes in that regard) Still, that looks like the most fun you could have in junky waves. The non-666ers in here don’t understand how effective the judicious use of a paddle is in terms of gliding through flat spots and accelerating through turns. I reckon you would have an absolute ball on the Hamster and use it heaps and heaps over the next six months or so… then probably see another advancement that tempted you.
On the other hand, a really good log is something you may only surf now and then, but might keep for life. When it’s the right vehicle it is exactly the right vehicle.

So I say… there is only one solution… Get both.

I just use a drill and make the fin screw holes all the same size...
The rubber o-ring makes sure they are tight anyway.

I just get them of EBay. Usually cheaper to get them from overseas.

Lacey I had the opposite fins to you in for a fair while 9s in the side and a s7 in the middle.
Went good in beachies, lots of drive and turned very easy but was a bit loose in the arse end when you came of the bottom hard.

My normal setup if the surf is ok is usually s5 sides with a 6" centre or JW FCS all around.
although lately I have just been using a 9" single in everything.. Cause I'm too lazy to change it.

I find the GL and GX don't give any drive of the bottom but do loosen it up a bit compared to single of the top. My current one came with a set and it went alright, the centre has a really wide base that I guess made up for it.

Fins are an evil witches brew designed to confuse everyone and suck more cash out of us.

Unfortunately they do make a big difference in a boards performance and there is no perfect fit for everyone.

For instance, I can't stand quads. I know right - totally uncool. But I have owned two and surfed about 7 or 8 and at no time have I thought, "Ripper...that's what I'm after."

My next board is a 2 and 1 because I loved the set up in The Fountain Of Youth. And I look at my new longboard and can't help wondering what a different fin a 1/2 inch back in a fin box would go like.

Aaaaaarrrrrrgggghhhhhh......fin talk......that way lies madness.....

Now how long is piece of string...
