If anyone tells you tomorrow that you may be over indulging, just tell them you are fuelling up for Saturdays Carlton River paddle.

Round 2 Summer Surf Series 5/01/20
This Sunday, at Park Beack, registrations close 8.15, first heat in the water 8.30, even if you have already entered we still need you to register at each round to enable heat seedings.

Round 2 of the Summer Surf Series was run in the clear waters of Pirates Bay this morning after the committee decided to relocate yesterday. The crew were blessed with a clean chest high shore break to show their skills with some very high wave counts and as with the round 1 comp some very close scores. Both Ben and Mat with their first foray into the club competition made the best of wave selection and managed some very good scores. A tech race was also run which tested the lung capacity of a couple of the paddlers. A few of the competitors also enjoyed the famous seafood basket at the fish market on the trip home. There will be some photos posted later for your viewing pleasure.

The paddling never stops in Tassie

5 Mile Beach Down Wind Run

Conditions are looking pretty good for the 5 Mile Beach downwind run this Saturday morning with a 55 kmph westerly forecast. If you're in and need to car shuffle we will see you at the Dodges Ferry School @ 10.30 for an 11.00 start at the 5 Mile Beach car park.

After a few late withdrawals the crew set off in a NW gusting to 50 kmph, it wasn't a dream run, but there were plenty of sliders up to 200m to be found in the tricky cross chop which also provided plenty of swims for everyone. Kudos to Lisa and Sam on their standard SUPs who showed the ones on race boards they can have just as much fun in the conditions.

Huon River Cruise this Sunday
We are revisiting the Huon Valley and conditions will be better than our last paddle there. 10.30 @ the Franklin boat ramp for those that need to car shuffle to the start at Huonville boat ramp at 11.00 and why not stop at Willie Smiths for an apple juice on the way home.

Couldn't of asked for better conditions at this mornings Huon River paddle, no breeze and sunny sky's made for an easy cruise apart from a bit of headwind for the last k, nothing like the last time we paddled there. James, down from the NW coast and Geoff, from Merimbula showed their lack of local knowledge and keen to push a bit harder headed down the eastern side of egg Islands only to miss the cut through and added an extra 10k to the 8k paddle when they had to paddle back upstream to the cutting.

Today's comp was run in what could be described as less than perfect conditions, but the committed crew didn't let that stop them from putting on a display that impressed the judges with some moves never seen in competition surfing before. Once again there were some very close scores that will see it go down to the wire with round 4 to decide this seasons champions, Also a special mention to Janet who made a guest appearance to take out the longboard division.

Club Flatwater Paddle 16 February

Long Beach Sandy Bay to Cornelian Bay, no guarantee it will be a cranking Downwinder, but there should be some wind assistance. Meet at Cornelian Bay car park just north of the playground at 10.30 for those that need to shuffle with 11.00 start at Long Beach.

Some fun runners were to be had on today's Derwent Downwinder, great time including several swims, dodging seaplanes, ferries and yachts, they were all on water today.

Perfect morning for the Clubs Lewisham Loop Paddle, clear warm waters, just right for those that were keen for a swim as there were plenty of swims and great to see some more female paddlers having a crack, looking forward to seeing them again and more at future paddles. Huge thanks to Roz & Mick for coordinating the media and water safety boat.

Summer Surf Series

Less than average conditions greeted competitors for today's final round of the Summer Surf Series, but we know that anyone can surf well in good waves, it's much harder to excel in bad waves and excel they did. The conditions did improve as both the tide and wind dropped which saw some high wave counts as well as high wave scores that put the judges under pressure as there wasn't much to seperate them. In the end Steve Clark took the trophy home with consistent scores over all rounds and a win in the final heat to be the clear winner.

TassieSUP Winter Classic + Australian Cold Water SUP Championship

With the current restrictions we have now pushed back the event and are hoping to run it in August or September, but we can't lock in the date just yet, but don't worry the water will still be cold and this will also give you extra time to source that new board and for some extra training.

The rules are pretty simple. You must be a club member, but no entry fees. Log in, upload your wave(s) from surfs between June 1-30, sit back and watch everyone's waves, judge and get judged, it's really that easy. You can upload 5 waves, with your best wave going to your score. Note: you will note be judged on your video presentation, editing or music. Footage from you phone, GoPro, camera or camcorder is perfectly acceptable, we are only judging your awesome performance. Judges will be selected by the Storm Bay Stand Up Paddle Commissioner and remain secret to avoid bribes, bias and pressure from riders. We look forward to hearing your interest.

TassieSUP Winter Classic + Australian Cold Water SUP Championship 11-13 Sep

One $30 entry fee will get you in all divisions + if your are not already a Storm Bay Stand Up Paddle Inc member $30 single membership or $50 for family membership.
We will be running a similar format to past years, but this year Storm Bay Stand Up Paddle Inc will be officiating and we will be kicking off with free surf Friday, followed by surf comp on Saturday and surf race and marathon race on Sunday.
Lufra Hotel & Apartments are really looking after us and offering 10% discount from $160 for a one night stay ($144) in a Studio (sleeps 2 max) and a 40% discount if you stay for two nights ($96) per night. The 2 bedroom at $220 (Sleeps 4 & the couch can be made into a single bed for a child if needed) for one night 10% discount ($198) and a 40% discount if you stay for two nights ($132) per night 2 x dbls or 1 dbl & 2 singles or have 2 apts that have 4 singles in each, contact direct ph 6250 3262
Lufra have opened their kitchen especially to cater for us and need an indication of who will be attending so they can organise kitchen supplies beforehand, so please advise us ASAP. Catering will be a little different from past years, with Pizza available Friday night and pub style meals Saturday night for the gala presentation and continental breakfast will be available Saturday & Sunday morning from 7am as well the cafe will be open during the day.
Due to the current climate some of our regular sponsors are doing it tough and we have not approached them as they have gone above and beyond in past years and we acknowledge that support.
