Most of the time I carry 1 x 14ft board but sometimes 2 x 14ft. Would the double sup rack is enough or do I need to buy the single sup rack as extra.
On windy days the board gets really flighty when loading and one time my board about to take off and just caught it in time. I think with lockrack you just push/slide into to secure one side then lock it in, anyway video as below?

In respect of "lockable".......any cable just needs a snip from a bolt cutter?

I have both the single and the double arms, and only use the double arms when carrying 1 or 2 boards. So really only need to buy
the double arms. You are correct in that you leave 1 side in the upright position and slide the board in and lock the other arms in, which is good in windy conditions.

How do you normally carry your 14ft boards, side by side or stacked on top? The double arm as far as I am aware is for stacking the boards on top of each other only. I only have surf/cruise boards around 9-10.5ft. So no real race board experience with using the arms. It would come down to the height of the boards for the ability to stack and use the double arm, otherwise you might need a second set to go side by side.

Looking at those double rack pic I don't think is not possible to carry 2 stacked up 14ft boards because the angle of that clamp?
Looks like it was design to stacked the wide board below and narrow board on top.
I think single rack for race/touring boards and double for surf/touring boards?

I would be interested to know too because I put my Glide at 29.5 on the bottom and my Mana at 33 on top, that would mean the glide will not be as secure driving along?? Or would it?

I got 2x 14ft boards with an 1 to 2 inch difference in width so double rack not ideal me think.
For me, it will have to be a single rack or keep using straps and just somehow climb over the roof to strap the board on windy days.

The arms do not need to be touching the board on bottom. You have 10+ feet of the board on top pushing down on it plus rocker preventing it moving. A lot of surface area in contact. Rock solid.

The double arms will work for 1 or 2 boards in just about all situations. Wider base for most pers surfing 28+ width boards. Narrower base may suit those who are on tooth picks.

Hi Dave i have a double lockrack. Ive found putting the wider board on the bottom works best . 2 thick race boards might be a no go as too much height . Im in geelong if your close .

Just re reading the above there may be some exceptions with rounder shaped boards and big differences in width.

DaveSandan: its possible you would be better putting Mana on bottom but this would require removing fins (effort). I'm guessing you don't take this combo out on average day though so effort may be worth it on odd occasion you do for comfort of security when on rad trip.

Some 14ft shapes with big rounded noses may not sit great on top of each other but I think would be ok. Would certainly need wider base.

A big part of how the work is the big soft ridges of rubber. Quite soft and really grab onto boards. Bit like how geckos get their extra grip on surfaces with hair follicles on feet increasing surface area contact.

Best SUP accessory I've purchased..I put 2 sup boards on.. Fanatic 8'10 on bottom and with my minion or Sunova Speeed on top..Way better, secure then tie downs ..Quicker in the winter no straps to mess with . No noise or vibration from straps..

I have a set of both, although I don't have a race board I've seen others around Torquay that have race boards on top of another and they fit perfectly.

I've got both the Double Sup Lockrack and the Surfboard Lockrack. If I'm just carrying one Sup, I'll usually use the Sup base with the Surfboard arms. I believe the Surfboard arms are the same as the Sup single arms. The Single arms are good for carrying thinner, surf style sups, but are also big enough to hold one thick raceboard (i.e. they will hold my 17' naish glide, which I believe is about 7" thick - however I don't know if it would fit something with massive sidewalls like an Ace for example). I don't think however you'd be able to get 2 surf sups to fit in the single arms, unless they are very thin and have very similar rocker lines.

The Double racks are overkill if you're just carrying one surf Sup - i.e. there is a lot of excess. Because my car is 2m high, I don't like driving around with the double arms on if I don't need to, in case for example I need to go into a garage. However, if you're carrying a race board, the double racks don't seem too excessive. I generally only use the double racks for carrying one surf sup and one race sup, which they do quite comfortably. 2 race boards may be a bit of a squeeze (I haven't tried it so I don't have any authority on the topic) but from others on this thread it seems like it's fine.

On the point of the bottom board sliding around - this isn't really anything to worry about. I drove all over bumpy tracks on Fraser Island for 5 days with 2 surf sups in the Double rack, the bottom board was too narrow to come anywhere near the racks, but it didn't move that much - certainly no danger of flying off the car. If you're really worried about movement, straps are still the best thing to make sure boards don't move, but if you're on sealed roads then it really isn't an issue. The bottom board didn't move at all on the highway trip from Fraser Island back to Sydney (~1200km at 100-110km/hr).

A very important thing to consider though is what size base to get. I purchased the standard base that came with the Double Sup, being 65cms. Unfortunately, my 14' x 25" race board was too narrow for it if it was on there by itself (i.e. the arms wouldn't touch the side of the board). I ended up cutting out the middle 15 cms of the base, thereby reducing the base to 50cms. I understand that you can get 50cms bases from Lockrack (which may be an option when purchasing, or you can at least talk to the guy to see if he'll give you the 50cm base instead of the 65cm one). So far I haven't been limited in carrying 2 surf sups by shortening the length of the base, however if you are carrying 2 race boards and the narrowest one is still say 27" wide, the 50cm base may be too short to give you enough width at the height of the 2nd board to hold it.

What are the widths of the 14' boards you'll be putting on there? For safety you can go the 65cm base, and if it's too big, you can always cut it down (might void your warranty though).

Long story short - I highly recommend them, go the Double if you're going to be using it for race boards, maybe consider getting the 50cm base if you've got narrow race boards.

In that case, you may not be able to lock the 25" in place if you only have that board and have the 65cm base.

If you had the 25" on top and either the 26" or 28" below, I would assume they would fit well with the 65cm base.

The question is if you want to have the option to be able to use the lockracks when you just want to carry the one 25" board AND have the option to use the lockracks to carry both boards, whether both boards can fit with only the 50cm base.

It's tricky, hopefully someone out there has tried it and can comment.

Had the lockrack double arm for over a month (base 60cm & 50cm to test). Its been great and the easiest in/out board loading than straps especially on my 1st dw day like last week.

Has no roof rack noise with or without the board. The soft rubber arms hugs the board and not worrying about the pressure of the over tight straps. The only disadvantage is you're limited to multi stack boards at certain height. The added height of the board above your car because of the base plate. (see pic of an 8" fin from almost garage door frame disaster).

I just manage to stack my 2 boards with blanket in between using the double sup arm as pictured. (14x26 bottom & 14x25 top).

If your board is more than 26+" wide use 60cm base otherwise 50cm is what I use.

Looks like not a lot of clearance there JEG on garage door, many years ago ripped my single fin out of the surfboard backing out of garage (dumb 17yr old)

Yup micksmith and this is an 8" fin as pic. I must remember to flip the board over or take it out when using the 9" & 10" fins.

I only use the double for two boards as it does look very odd carrying a small single board and it only takes a minute to change over to the single which looks very neat.

I only got the double arm and most of the time I carry single board.
