I've been surfing a longboard for the last year and the kalama boards have got me frothing again!!!
Trying to lose 5kg and hopefully get a 9/28 currently on 9'2 /30 I personally like the narrow boards, loving my 10/28 it's quickly becoming my all time favourite board!
Theres definitely some special sauce in these kalama boards!!!

How does it compare to the Infinity New deal and the JM destroyer

I picked up my 9'0 last week. The board is insanely light. I had to wait for the Quobbas to come in so in the meantime I threw on a 9 inch center fin and two small side bites. It's surfed extremely well but seemed slow with the center fin. Fast forward a week and I've surfed it now with the Quobbas and I've gotta say this board surfs much better as a quad, as I believe it was probably designed to do. Exceptional hold on the nose yet more loose. I agree with nshore slider that under smaller conditions, I think I'll stick with the mediums up front and smaller side bites for the rears. I love how thin the nose is. Paddling out it slices through oncoming waves very easily. It tracks straight as an arrow when paddling. At 6'0/175 lbs 28" wide is perfect for me. I had it out this morning on knee high glassy waves with strong offshores and fairly weak waves, and it literally catches anything. I really look forward to getting this board out in waves with more juice.
if I had a gripe with this board it's that I wish the handle was a few inches further back. Once fins are installed it's definitely weighted a little to the rear. Aside from that, it's super solid, light, has a great deck pad, and is basically everything I was looking for in a longboard shape.

Apologies,to the forum,for posting this here!However a great result,the board is heading West,to a very happy retired grom!!!,this is exactly the outcome we were hoping for,from avery sad situation good luck and many waves to the new owner!

Hey everyone, how's the flex in this board? I'm looking for a longboard with less volume. I'm currently on the Speeed 9'2 and love the board but feel it's a little too big for what I want to do with it now. I'm in the US so it's either going to be a Kalama or a New Deal. What do yall think? Anyone ride a longer Speeed and Kalama both? Thanks for the guidance on this one!

Stats: 6' Tall, 175lbs, age 35

My surf buddy is on 9x28 Kalama and I'm on the same size New Deal, don't think you can go wrong either way, main difference we notice is New Deal tail looks a little more pulled in, and of course ND is 3 fin with US box in center while Kalama has quad option with back fins close together.

Yeah I have a smik short Mac8,5 and often get a cheeky 5 ,super fun board with more than a frazz of spitfire performance a very underrated board IMO !

I have the old 8'2" Speeed n that's plenty for me at 103 liters. Has the speed of a much bigger board but turns great. If you can find one, that's another option

I'm happy to hear they have a flat rocker,as imo the old imagine boards had way to much rocker,I never surfed one just an observation,my comment is based on needing a board that paddles well,stoked to hear about the construction though ,looking forward to seeing one in person.

I have the older 9'8" x 29 and yes, has lots of rocker however combined with rails that thin out a good bit towards the tail, it does make it easier to turn and definitely an advantage in a beach break. Bit harder to get on to fat rollers though.

I have the older 7'10x27.5" - had it down in Nosara last week - such a great surf but them rails chip oh Soo easy. ????

I have 9' infinity now, its much better than the speed I had but can't really compare due to the speed being too big and corky for me. At the same volume I would have been on a 7'11 speed which would better compare to a shortboard sup. If you want to try a longboard style sup I wouldn't get a speed.

Dyl ,will Dave eventually cater for us pintail lovers ?we talked some time ago about it ,has it progressed ?

Kalama,Kalama,Kalama....so good.hopefully a pintail is on the drawing board and also Bert Burger is about to release a new model...could be the one.

Nah I don't think so, Kalama Performance won't have a huge range like other brands. Dave is making pretty much variations of what he rides in popular performance sizes. Personally I have always had round or pin tails and to be honest was a bit like ahhh when I got my Kalama's but wouldn't go back now as they're performing really well for me now.

Okay okay Speeed 8'2 for my shorter ride and the Kalama either 9' for my longboard! Thanks for the input yall

Same for me on this. I was always a rounded pin tail guy, bought a few boards that didn't have that tail shape and did not like how they went. I was skeptical on the Kalama tail for that reason but it's perfect. Absolutely zero complaints and far exceeded my expectations.

Dyl, the Kalama team photo in Bali recently showed all the boards with thrusters,I'm curious because the mc kee set up looks so right !on these boards?

No idea what the pros ride, but prefer the 9'0" as a thruster. Everybody else posting seems to really like the quad set up, but thruster goes better for me. Odd, because I usually really like quads on my prone boards.

The position of the quad trailer fin is radical. It is really far off the rail.

Personally I like to ride thruster. I actually changed the set up before coming to indo to a larger set. Dave likes quads and I have used quads in them but personally I prefer thruster.
