Quobba gives you more speed... but also require more speed to shine.

If you are used to big center fins, you may have to adapt your surfing to seek speed (e.g. higher lines on the wave) to stay "in the revs". If you feel you lacked drive it may be you are at slower speeds where big fins will already provide drive, whereas you need more speed to have the quobba really show their difference.

For Helmy: your best bet is to have a center fin with a tool-less system (either FCSII Connect or finjak), and experiment moving the fin during the session. The difference in handling by moving a bit the fin can be spectacular.

I swapped a set of medium sized normal side fins for Quobba medium side fins..and using a standard 7 inch centre fin. This is on my 9,6 longboard sup. I noticed a difference in speed and looseness on the slow waves I usually have. I used that set up for a good while. Lately I have started using large Quobba sides with a standard 6 inch centre. The speed is probably around the same I think but the board is noticeably more stable down the line. Getting further up to the nose is sooo much easier as the board feels solid and the tail seems to be really locked in. I'm really quite taken aback at how much these fins help for noseriding. The board is a little stiffer on the turns with the bigger sides but if you want a compromise in improving noseriding whilst having a fun turning board then big thumbs up from me. Of course you can move the centre fin up a bit for more looseness.

The JC fin set I have has 133mm tall side fins and a 118mm tall centre box fin. That's what I like using in better conditions - shoulder high +. It's also more likely where the Quobba's will perform.

I never usually run a single fin on any board, but i feel that on waist high and smaller days - on a board like a point break - one slammed forward in the box would be fun. I've got finjaks and FCS centre fins...

It'd be nice if quobba did single fins and 2+1 options...

Hoppo..Quobbas will have standard single centre fins in about a year's time. They are testing one out just now with a couple of surfers including Beau Nixon. Once they get the design dialled in then it will go into the production process.

Tried it out today for a couple of hours with a 10" classic single only. Weak waves about waist / chest high.

When the waves were just fat blah - it only trimmed along - can't expect much there though. My longboard Sunova goes better for this type of wave imo. Straighter rail line and wider nose make it trim better.

When the tide was right, there was some walling sections that had some speed. It came alive surfing this. Not sure if it was the fin or the board, but it was loose, drivey and you could still slide the tail a bit when the time was right. Needed a wide stance (obviously) but really had fun once the wave had some shape. Will be heaps of fun through autumn with some power in the water. Yes it's not the highest performance board, but for the conditions where you just want to have fun... it will be mint.

It doesn't feel 11' in the water / on a wave at all maybe as it is really light (much lighter than my 9'6" One and my 10'4" Surf). The pointy nose also just cuts through the wave on the paddle out, much easier than on a longboard sup.
