Been too busy to chase up delivery, or to go surfing.
Hoping it get's here in time for Merimbula!

Rick,
It's to fool the wife!
"I only have one board, dear!"

Hoppo, I dropped into SHQ on Saturday. Tim tells me the slow boat is in Qld. Melbourne in a "couple of weeks".
I'm tipping it will arrive when I'm in Merimbula.
I think you're in Torquay or thereabouts?
I could pick yours up if you can't make it up here in shop hours. I'm only a couple of minutes from SHQ.

Thanks for the offer Helmy. I'm based in Torquay but work in Melbs most days - so it's all good for me to pick up.

Enjoy your board mate! Hopefully it's what you have needed in the quiver

Finally picked it up from SHQ today. Took a couple of quick pics with the stock fins in. I've got some Jackson Close fins to go in tonight.

Hopefully there is a wave or smooth conditions about on the weekend. YEW!

Helmy, Did you pick up yours yet?

All good Dudes solo session on the 8'8 flow today dried up all my tears ,but i am getting heavier and wouldn't mind
some extra volume , but trust my board to get caught up in a christmas back log of freight ,all good things come to those who wait .pppppppfffffffff,

but its hoppo's thread and we can't wait to hear how the 11 goes mate ,I wish I had one ,Specially today on some of the big rights .
I was bordering on wipe out ,the flow does perform best in medium swell .running the nubster on a quad set up simmered it out a bit .

I finally got it in the water yesterday. Small 1-2ft clean point waves at Point Roadknight.

Glides in really easily, trims well. I had it over finned for those waves so it was a bit stiff to turn. Will likely try a 9-10" single fin in conditions like that next time to loosen up.

It's just a touch more stable than a 10'6" Naish Nalu. It also feels very light. Much lighter than the 9'5" One XXX and my custom 10'4 Surf XXX longboard - but haven't weighed it as yet.

Happy so far.

JAW,

Pretty much... didn't wear sunscreen and got absolutely toasted.

Quite a few surfers out back (incl foilers) so just sat on inside and took all the way to the boat ramp.

Sorry Hoppo, missed your post.
Yes I picked up mine about the same time you did.
Only one outing on it so far (I've been sailing). Small surf down at Point Leo on an outgoing tide, but it fitted the bill beautifully :
light and easy to carry
picks up small surf easily, and a lot better than being in a line up with a race board
nice to distance paddle when the surf and/or tide drops - a la Creeks cruisey Search vids

Going to have to work on the fins - it was a bit tight on the turns, albeit small surf. What fin solution have you come up with so far?

Got a week lined up down Westernport next week, so I will update after that.

Hey Helmy,

Gonna try a 9-9.5" single all the way forward in the box next for small Pt Roadknight. It just felt too stiff with the Jackson Close thruster set up for the (very) weak waves at Roadie.

Then I might try as a 2+1 with some 3.5-4" sides and a 7.5" rear centre for chest high. For OH the JC thruster set will go back on.

I'll also order some Quobba's to try, but I didn't like em last time I had em... Everyone else seems to rave about em - I just didn't feel it, they lacked the drive I like usually.

Quobba gives you more speed... but also require more speed to shine.

If you are used to big center fins, you may have to adapt your surfing to seek speed (e.g. higher lines on the wave) to stay "in the revs". If you feel you lacked drive it may be you are at slower speeds where big fins will already provide drive, whereas you need more speed to have the quobba really show their difference.

For Helmy: your best bet is to have a center fin with a tool-less system (either FCSII Connect or finjak), and experiment moving the fin during the session. The difference in handling by moving a bit the fin can be spectacular.

Agree Colas. Most of the waves I sup are slow walling points.

The JC fin set I have has 133mm tall side fins and a 118mm tall centre box fin. That's what I like using in better conditions - shoulder high +. It's also more likely where the Quobba's will perform.

I never usually run a single fin on any board, but i feel that on waist high and smaller days - on a board like a point break - one slammed forward in the box would be fun. I've got finjaks and FCS centre fins...

It'd be nice if quobba did single fins and 2+1 options...

Thanks Colas.
Have just ordered some finjak's - neat idea!

Back in the day I use to run my 11 naish nalu as a thruster ,large FCS alround ,never spun out and push the rear forward for more looseness .you have a lot of rail in the water so shouldn't need too big a fins ,I stood up the tail and flicked it around
I never liked the Quobbas either ,because I always am trying to slow my board down for moves ,tried them many time ,
I like AM1 shapers .with flex ,a lot nicer in choppy faces ,full carbon fins I find too stiff and harder to use ,I have a 6.5 rear Hop is you want to try it ,made for fin tracks ,
