My 1000 needs good wind otherwise I'm on the 920.

pretty please, I am just about to put the order in on 1010 + 400, but three questions;
1) the wing is long, so is the turning still ok with it
2) although it seems to have very good low end, how is the stalling, as in one tester mentioned that it drops somewhat violently when the speed decreases?
3) aluminum mast is 19mm, and someone commented that the carbon mast would be quite a bit faster, is there really a significant difference between the two? I take it that the aluminum is really really solid and non-flexible?

Larry Foiler said he uses the 16mm for everything even the 1010, said it's faster and likes the whip buy he is around 65kgs. Local shop said stick with the 19mm for extra stiffness and to avoid warranty issues. I'm torn

thanks, but I prefer stiffness, but just wondering if it's really worth upgrading, extra cost from carbon one adds up a lot to the whole setup :/

Omg.

if you want a carbon mast get a GoFoil or Armstrong. That way you have less parts and zero corrosion. Axis is a great aluminium setup, one of the best and strongest. The 1010 turns good for a wing of its size and you'll struggle to stall it on the wing. It has heaps of glide and pump in small bumps.

I may now sound like an Axis "fanboy" haha, but, have a preorder out on a Fanatic SkyWing 5?4 (noone gets any info when they will ship them and it looks not promising next couple of months, but hey, who knows...) but i live in Sweden...and...winter is coming...

The Axis Froth 5?5 i can pickup at the local shop tomorrow morning (for a 92kg guy who also need be able stand on it to get back in in really light wind days) 100l, anyone tested it or any thoughts ? :)

I am new to Wingdinging but my 2 cents:
1-I felt it turned really well (but I have only ridden a Gong XXL prior and that is like a jumbojet in comparison)
2-The thing is it "glides" so effortless, hence, for it to drop you really need to loose alot of speed (and or fall asleep and forget to pump ;), it never dropped for me yesterday in 8knots and just minimal waves...so...
3-Think i read and people here also say go with the 19mm, i think 2nd market will swallor ur mast if you want to change later on ;)

If you prefer the stiffness don't bother with the carbon mast.

IMO, only go the 19 mm if your SUP foiling or a really big boy - just about everyone I know that rides Axis (thats a lot of foilers) have all changed from the 19 to 16mm because its faster & still plenty stiff enough (stiffer than the carbon).

Joop you could check out 'foiltycoon' on Instagram. He is riding the froth, in a smaller size, and seems to be going well and will probably answer questions. When I'm out paddling my raceboard SUP cause it's low wind, he's out with his wing! (Probably got a lot to do with the 1150 he rides too). Cheers HB

I picked up the carbon mast once and it's bloody heavy for.. carbon. Not convinced it's worth the upgrade.

Easier to stick to 19, heaps more used masts available.

I use a 460 flat tail with the 1010 the most on the wing. It's gives it another top gear for speed. The 460 is a great tail as it solid carbon and can be cut down if you want to loosen it up more.

400 standard also works well with the 1010, a bit more stable and less slidy in the turns. The 370 is also worth considering. I think those riders that like the 390 tail match it to the curvier front wings of the 900 or 1000. I've only used the 390 once and felt no real performance gains over the others listed above.

I have the 390, 400 & 460 stabs. they are all hood in there own way. if I had to pick 1 for a bit of everything, surfing, downwinding, winging it would be the 460.

Thanks, I'm 80kg / 175lbs. 4'10 85liter board. This setup would be for winging, and I like to ride from 12 knots onwards with my 5 Unit. I like speed, glide, pumping and turning qualities - of course :) We have some swell, however it's smallish, but I would like to be able to link them via pumping and gliding from the foil. I am, dare I say very good on kitefoil and strapless surfboard kiting (tricks and waveriding), but winging is new stuff for me, but I'd like to think I will learn it quickly, haha we'll see :) So I'm looking for a setup which works well for my conditions and also I won't outgrow quickly. I fear I need to buy another front wing for windier days, however, mostly I'd be on my strapless surfboard then.

If you like speed and glide the 1010 and 460 (HA/Flat) will be a good combination. If you are like most of the people I wing with, you will start with one of everything and end up with "more" of everything as you find your specific groove.

I also have the 400 and 390 and didn't notice any massive differences with the 390. I need to try them side by side. I was expecting it to be much quicker so I may need to invest in the 460 too.

Absolutely. Even a 1% shim which is very thin makes a noticeable different. If you don't have a shim- find a really thin washer, put it on the forward screw on the Axis to reduce lift, decrease resistance and give it a go. Your average washer is likely to be a few degrees.

Or if you are not using it w/ the 460 flat tail- you could pair it with that for extra turbo boost, less initial lift.

I just got a 1010 with the 75cm Ali mast with 370 rear wing for Windwinging on a 125 ltr board. I am 100kg

question: what is the best rear foot position for this set up? Directly over the mast ?
