Camarillo said..flkiter said..I'm 77 kg and I can use the 860 in small to medium waves but they have to be clean. If it's sloppy crumbling stuff then I prefer a traditional or HA wing. 860 loves to carve so if it's a day that I'm going to be riding the wave and not worrying about pumping back out on my sup then the 860 is super fun. Fast bottom turns to top turns, it'll whip itself into any direction with ease. It has good pump to hit other sections but not like the 1010 that'll let you pump out 100 meters to catch swell lines.
For winging, I found this foil turned so tight and fast that I slowed it down a little with the 390 rear.
So the 860 doesn't have a pump like the 1010 as I expected, does it pump more like the 900?
And what rear did you use before the 390?
And with which wing is the 860 comparable with respect to lift when winging?
I'm 90 kg on a prone board. Have only a few sessions on the 860, but really loving it so far. I've found that in general- I actually pump it a little better than I do the 900. Although the 900 is probably a better pumping wing for someone more advanced at that skill- the 860 is no slouch, has more low speed lift, so is more forgiving- I can bring it back up to speed/recover after slowing down. That said- predictably, the 900 surfs, glides and pumps at higher top end speeds and once up and going- the 900 pumps with more forward projection. What I have found with the 860 is, when surfing, I utilize turning to carry/pick up speed rather than pumps.
I've not tried the 860 on SUP and although hoping to- have yet to wing at all, but imagine that at my weight- it'll be a more medium surf wing on SUP- I'd grab something else for really small days. I'd also imagine that it would be great for winging, carving turns in the surf in moderate winds. Hope to find out sometime soon.
