Couple of the new Kalama E3 boards arrived in Japan today. Dave is definitely all over it in terms of designs going forward. This is what's landing in Australia mid September:
Sup foil:
5'4"x 26.875", @ 104L
5'6"x 28.5", @ 112L
5'10"x 28.875", @ 123L
6'0"x 30.25", @ 131 L
6'6"x 30.75", @ 141L
Downwind:
6'1"x 23", @ 105L
6'5"x 23.5", @ 116L
Tow:
3'10"x 19" @ 19L
4'4 x 19.5" @ 31L

with the SUP-Surf boards, is the tail straight or is there the usual angled inwards chine thingy? I can't really tell from the picture.

It's flat and comes to a point, look up Kalama performance oz on instagram, watch the story highlights as the first batch landed in oz on Thursday

It loos like there are differences between some of the models but one couldn't tell as there is no clear description from the company

The pointy bottom tail seem to be the common feature for the new shapes but some models seems to have the angled rocker at the
tail ( like the downwind version Jeremy Riggs is riding) and some seem to have a straight tail with chamfer on the deck side
like the board Tomo is riding (see pic).

I think they really need to put out a video tour and talk about all the new feature and changes to the shape.

I just got my new Kalama E3 DW board delivered today! Its is the 6'1 X 23 X 105 litres. I have to say it exceeded my expectations in regards to construction, quality of finish, light weight and overall balanced feel of that weight!
The board was delivered double cardboard boxed, then deck ,bottom and rails wrapped in dense styrofoam and the board was then in a silk sleeve, impressive!!
I have been down winding with a paddle on a 6'0 X 96 litre Sunova aviator in Vapour construction which is 6kgs, production ones are 6.8 kgs. The Vapour construction is quite soft and not very durable. The Kalama is 6.2kgs (+200grams) and its 10 litres more volume, it feels like its a way stronger durable construction.

Burchas, the board Tomo is on in the photo above is the new E3 production DW board that i just got. Jeremys board is a custom 6'2 X 21. If you listen to James Casey recent podcast with Jermery he mentions that he is going to switch to the new E3 6'1 production board because he liked it better than his custom.

I have an original 4'6" E1 prone and love it. So tuff.

Awesome looking boards! I really like the progression of the shape. Sounds like a bomber construction as well.
I could easily see my self owning 2 of those but the 5'6"x 28.5", @ 112L looks a good do it all.

I'd still like to see a video tour of the line-up with an in-depth talk about the new, shape differences between the
models and guideline for potential buyers. Can only do good for the brand. The Kalama site and marketing is a
disaster (right now all the links are broken on the site)

The downwind boards look fast and really thick. I see length and width listed, but anyone know how thick these boards are? Track box looks way forward as well. 15"?

Today I will get pics in as much detail as I can of my 6'5 downwinder. & measurements of what's asked. Weight of the 6'1 is 6.2kg I know that.

I was thinking of the 5'10, possibly the 5'6 as a wing and sup do it all. Same weight as you, but I typically sup shoulder to head high waves that have a fair bit of cross current and a long paddle that is too far for prone. I'm quite sure the 5'4" would be too difficult. I'm actually blown away you can ride it! Do you think the 5'10" is too big for a skilled foiler, but average sup'er?

Blown away I could ride it! Pffftt what is this hahahah. I used to ride 5'4 Sunova 83L, 5'10 aviator 83L 5' E2 92L but just decided to make it easy on myself and go 104L so I get more waves, still have glide and don't fatigue as quick.
skilled foiler but average sup rider. 86kg, I reckon you would get away with 5'6 it's 112L. But more comfortable on the 5'10 123L

my old man got the 510 and loves it. In his 60s great sup surfer & better than most sup foilers in our area.

Im Not sure how to put them the right way round but turn your phone or screen instead haha

Pohaku the pics are great! Thank you! Tried to prone downwind (with hand paddles) my own homemade wing board (5'6x24"x4.5") yesterday in the eastern gorge in 18-24mph winds. It was very clear I need something faster: longer, thicker, narrower. This design looks like the golden ticket to open up downwind foiling for a not-SUPer. Thanks again for the pics!!

Well, I'm new to the forum and was going to post a video of myself paddling in flat water the 5'6" right after I left the shop.


im new to foiling but at 90kg wet. I was super nervous it was not enough volume, but I think the board is going to be about the right volume as a sup foil. I'm using it as a wing foil board too and can't wait!!! It should have plenty of volume for that.

Does anyone have some feedback on the downwind shapes? I like the concept of the longer and narrower design, but as they're basically around 5" narrower than most foil board shapes we've seen over the last few years, how are people adapting to that change? Is it more difficult to maintain stability or does the shape and thickness give it enough stability?

I'm yet to use mine. But talking to DK about it and he was saying when paddling cross wind you don't have to stand up you can kneel or lay down. Once you turn down wind they become quite stable as the wind is on your back and the foil gives off stability anyway.
the new shape even in the surf ones are way more stable than they look. I'm sure the DW is the same. Detailed descriptions will be online on Gofoil Australia website > boards > Kalama performance page this week.

The boards look great. Just a few questions if anyone knows
1) How are the kalama surf foil sups with foils needing more forward box placement like the Armstrong foils? Anyone tried them with the armstrongs?

2) Has anyone ridden the Armstrong FG boards as SUP foil boards (like the 5'8" 99L) and if so how do they compare to the Kalama E3 SUP foil (e.g 5'4 104L) .

Just found out that the carrying strap on my new Kalama Performance board is multifunctional. I'm riding the 6'1 x 23" board at 105 liters with the GoFoil RS 1150 front wing, 14.5" fixed tail. Wind speed for this run was averaging 25mph.

Not yet only used the 5'4 but mainly been prone foiling. The new RS will be available next month in Oz, but we may see some trickle in this month

That's a bloody good looking setup Hilly! The kalama boards looks way better than the big Armie FG boards in my opinion. Good choice. Keen to know if the tracks are far enough forward to work well as an all rounder for both Sup and Wing.
