The axis 900 is a great wing but you need to be pretty light weight to downwind it!

The 900 is great for surfing (shortboard and sup), easy to control the lift even on steep take off, amazing glide but you need to speed up. That is why it is not so easy in dw (at least in light to medium dw).

The others wings are pretty similar to the old go foil : Axis82 = iwa, 92 =M200, 102 = M280
Gofoil works better at low speed but Axis better at higher speed.

The axis 900 would be similar size as the go foil IWA for example. I am on the heavier side of things so I am quite happy to surf a IWA size wing but would not do too well on that wing on a downwinder. An elite paddler around or under 80 kg can make the 900 or IWA work on a downwinder. Thats what we meant about weight.

I surf the 900 all the time and it is a wepon.

We should get some good downwind conditions Saturday. I will have to give Scotty Mac a head start this weekend I reckon.

Don't jinx yourself! Hope that 1000 wing is big enough for you to get up and running Trav otherwise you have countless hours to do on the skierg! I am sure to be up and going on my trusty 280!

Do you reckon you could learn on the 900 as a beginner or would you be getting folded in half constantly?

I found the Axis 1000 really good when up and riding. Felt fast and never over foiled, the hardest past was getting it going. It is still only 1400cm so it requires a lot of effort to get it going.

I'm here on Maui now & just tried the new GoFoil GL240 in the surf & then for my 2nd downwinder in 6 months....Got to say it's pretty awesome (see review)
The GoFoil M280 is definitely the wing to learn downwinding on but the new GL's are next level for pump & glide... Alex, Dave Kalama & Tomo are doing back to back Maliko runs on either the GL180 or 240 without touching down...
Photo of New GL240 & Iwa 1.5....30% lighter & fitted straight on to my exisiting 29.5" mast...

So whats the width of the GL240 v the GL180 , looking at your pic the 240 is just wider than the IWA (787mm) I though it was heaps bigger .
Is the 180 , 210 & 240 size aimed at riders weight in pounds ? Slick looking wings .

i heard from a guy in Hawai'i right now for the M2O that the Gofoil and Signature rigs are smoking everything else.

Thanks murf,
hope the 4m Duotone gives enough push at reasonable wind to get it running...

A Spanish guy showed up on my home beach a few days ago, it was completely , 100% flat and no wind , glassy.

He took his Axis 6'0 board with with an Axis s102 wing and paddled his board into flying at least 10 times....

I had a go on his setup but no chance

But a foil that is easy to get flying in the smallest wave is what I am looking for...and the new Gofoils, the new Axis foils and the Signature Foils seem to be to small for me to do that, and the Gofoil M200 and M280 to draggy ??

The Axis S102 or perhaps the upcoming Neil Pryde XL seem to be the best choice for that to me
My NP Large wing is supposed to be 1612 cm^2 , 1484,7 projected area could be right?

I am looking for a new wing as well. And want to make it as easy as possible to get going on small waves. Someone mentioned that Armstrong is to come out with a new wing?
Anyway the most cost effective would to get the NP XL wing. But I think in a few months there will be a few good choices
Soon to trade one kidney for the holy grail of getting up on the wing in flat conditions!
