I have the ion rope slider, I was wondering whether I could put a ronstan ring and put the ozone chicken loop around it. Does it stay in place? It's the 2019 click in chicken loop made out of plastic.

You will need a larger antifriction ring than the standard one that we have been using due to the larger and square nature of the new chicken loop. And I guess this is part of another issue now because the ring is a fair bit bigger and bulkier than the smaller ring that fits the older Ozone cl.

Thanks - I'm actually wondering whether I need a ring because the ozone cl is now in solid plastic and travels along the rope quite smoothly ?

No, the friction ring would still be a better option because of how smooth it travels. The cl will wear out the rope pretty quickly, where as the FR will not.

Cheers, I'll head down to Whitworths marine and check what size Ronstan ring I'll need. I'm guessing the largest 26mm.

Hi Peppedurso,

We sell both Ride Engine and also ION Team Wave. The Ride Engine had the concept first with the stiff back for support and it does this very well. In wearing both, I find the Ride Engine a little more supportive, but the ION is more comfortable for ME.

They are both setup with the rope bridle which allows the chicken loop to slide from side to side to allow unrestricted wave riding performance (both can be set up with a fixed hook). I think the wider spreader on the Ride Engine does this a little better with more movement range and a more durable concept. I find the ION is easier to setup, adjust and more comfortable.
There is a significant cost attached to the Ride Engine over the ION and from the feedback I have received, most people feel it is a big hit to the wallet, but worth it. I haven't had enough experience on the Ride Engine to give an informed personal opinion as yet.

Both are a good jump up on regular designed harnesses. The softer sided better padded ION wins it in terms of comfort, but I think the Ride Engine probably has it over the ION in terms of back support.

Best to drop in to a shop and try them on back to back. Harnesses are always such a personal item.

I got around it be putting an old surfboard foot strap pad around the carbon spreader bar until I picked up the 2017 bar with pad. tough harness to go past in my opinion.

Can confirm the largest, 26mm Ronstan ring is the one you want for the newer Ozone CL, it fits very well. It was incredibly nice and smooth

Thanks for the info - got 26mm ID Ronstan ring yesterday, perfect fit for the latest Ozone short chicken loop, don't think it will be coming out of the grove on the ring during jumps. Safety releases well too (the grove does not have any lips for the click-in part of the chicken loop to catch onto).

Full session yesterday - the chicken loop did not came out from the pulley groove even once (I do have the short option chicken loop on my bar). Super smooth sliding on the rope, much better than the stainless steel ring I used to have. The stainless steel ring slides ok on a new rope but it does wear it out fairly quickly and does not slide so well once the line wears a little. I kite about 2.5 hrs 5 times a week (mostly foiling) and had to replace my slider rope (ion harness) after 3 months (would not trust it to boost on a twintip). It is not unreasonable to expect a much longer slider line life with this setup.

Looking into replacing my harness for a new one. Does anyone tried a hard shell one with a slide bar? Is it worth spending money on a hard shell one mainly for surfing? Cheers

Been running a hardshell with a rope slider since 2016, wouldn't go back.
Don't bother with the ronstan ring get the rope kit for your CL if you can.
