Hi everyone, after riding for years with a custom bar (snap shackle instead of chicken loop) decided to go for a Cabrinha Fireball bar without the lower part. It works great and safety line do not get wrapped around main line in case of rotations.here the picture of set up:

Simple, safe, light, and effective.

You should try the Manera Exo... will have soon available a new harness also, the Manera Union, Mitu is winning the wave riding world tour with it and very happy that this harness is helping him winning! ...

Great to see how this thread has developed and the good examples and ideas. I like the simplicity and tidy resolution of the Antal ring.
I've just reworked my set-up with a 20/14 Wichard frictionless ring. This particular ring has a lip in the groove that grips perfectly my Cabrinha CL - so potentially avoids any slack line jump outs - see pics - and no need to shorten the DD to hold the CL in the ring.
I also added a slackened second spectra line as a back up.
The immediate advantage is a reduction in bar throw by about 60-70mm - compared with my old Cabrinha CL /bar set -up.
Yet to test it out on the water, but very pleased with the set-up so far - thanks guys.

Also I'm finding the smoothness of the low friction ring lush. The stainless D ring was grabby and unpleasant. For the most part the low friction ring stays on the chicken loop. But it has dislodged a few times in during crashes. Its easy to pop back in, on the fly though!

Just wanted to share that the wichard thimble is the shiz.
I'm vertically challenged, some say I'm short. I was using a Selden pulley with spectra soft shackle connected to a stainless bow shackle. By using the wichard I have gained 80mm in reach and nearly as smooth as the pulley. Happy camper just need wind.

So what about the opposite:

- a light weight, non rigid, flexible harness you can ride loose so it slides around a bit, no sliding spreader, want to unhook.

What about that kind of wave harness? That's what I want.

I used an ozone snow kite harness for a while. That fits you description. I worked great. Toeside is better on the slider but that's about it.

Am going to buy one of these North Rope harness kits, has anyone tried one?
I am hoping it will work well with a Ride Engine Harness

I've been running the Slingshot version on my RE rope slider, works perfectly. I imagine the North one would be sweet too.

Awesome looking bit of kit, just one question...if the unexplainable happened & you had a line wrapped around your bar preventing you from being able to push the QR.
Do you have another option to punch out ?

Reading this has given me a nudge...Too informative - more mods coming on - need to go shorter!!
Went from Jay bar on a rail but v.average harness - = nice for bar set-up but sore back/ribs
to RE with witchard - a very easy setup.. I have not notice friction as I had not realised how strong the elastic was on the Jay setup
The RideEngine has been a game changer - stopped sore back and ribs so now that is the norm' (been some years since I could say that!!)
I will get to work on a closer setup especially with above bar de-power...
Thanks for the g8 variety and content.. U realise need to keep an eye out for whats on the market. evolved in my area of interest - amasing
Cheers

Nop no other option, thats the isdue with rope sliders, weather you have the chicken loop or a set up like this you will alwsys have some risk but hey thats kiteboarding.

Yeah ok, the ATB version looks like you could still push as there's a gap - same as the North version?

At a guess - its the min distance to allow you to rotate the bar (steer kite) whilst fully sheeted in?

It's 100mm, I needed that to make the splice work (double Brummel). Also the red ball is a pull release (green is push) so some space is needed there for that to work.
Tbh, I don't think I'd want the bar any closer but each time their own.

Nice set up, but I would consider putting a backup slider rope. Even with the Antal ring it does eventually wear. Gotta love simple but effective designs.

I keep a good eye on the rope, almost no wear with the LFR but I haven't had it snap yet so will consider a 2nd rope.
I originally did this mod to get the bar closer but now think it can be too close & this is about right for me .
The best features I've found with this mod is the weight (under 1kg) & the extended throw (730mm).

Hey guys,

I bought a girls harness, smaller back and narrower sides. No more rashes now.

Been using a sliding setup for years now, a few interations but planning to make one so it does not flop about too much. The only problem I found with having the rope too tight is that it makes the sliding side to side erratic, a longer rope makes it a bit more fluid.

Sorry, dont have any pics of my setup at the mo.

I'm using an old dynabar with the stainless steel bar and a cheap entry level Dakine seat harness. It's quite thin with little padding and super comfortable after 3 seasons.

For me waist harnesses always end up riding up too much and I can't jump with them. This combo of seat and slider works well foiling, on SB and TT.

I'm thinking the 30mm solid rings look like a good option if you jut want to put your chicken loop through the hole. Bigger hole and just feels like a better shape to me than the wider rings which could be stronger.. I could be wrong though.

It was pointed out on another forum that these rings are designed to be used in compression, not tension which could cause failure.

Does anyone know if the low friction rings are as smooth as a Ronstan pulley? I like the idea better because it's simpler, and less working parts.

Ronson seem to be just as good and cheaper. Try any of the yacht shops.
You would want at least 20mm inside (hole) diameter with a 14mm width in the groove section.
This will allow you to set up with chicken loop around ring (sitting in the groove) or through the centre of the ring.
The bigger the better so the chicken loop doesn't jam if used through the centre of the ring if you have to quick release.

I find the CL rarely comes out of the groove when crashing. And if it does it is easy to put back into the groove quickly.
Thumbs up for the double rope on spreader bars. These rings dramatically limit spreader bar rope wear and are so smooth.
The first time you use it, it will catch you out as the ring slides so easy and quickly.

This is my ideal set up for surfing or foiling.

I used a ronstan pulley for a couple seasons before changing to the LFR, imo the low friction ring is just as smooth as a ronstan pulley.

The low friction ring is the bomb. I put one on this year and it is REALLY smooth. I was using a large stainless steel ring before that, but this LFR is great. I am pretty confident that I will get at least half the wear on my slider. Chicken loop slots nicely on to the outside ring.

More than that i often find after doing a tight turn/carve from toeside to backside the kite loses some power at the end of the turn, turning back upwind. I let the kite follow me from behind by pushing the bar to the opposite side of the slider. This gives a moment for the kite to power up again as it comes back in the window.

And yes I used to be a firm believer of the loose sliding harness.

The jay rope slider has a pin release on one side of the rope, although many recommend to get rid of the red ball as its too easy to release accidentally. You always need a plan B and a knife doesn't always cut it (pun intended).

Having said that I replaced my rope but it doesn't have the eyelet for the pin so I am now living dangerously.
