If you don't crash your kite from time to time then your not pushing hard enough, if every time you crash your kite it splits it halts progression ,as a 10 day turn around on repair gives me the ****s especially when it's cranking, I'm not a disgruntled owner as I pay next to nothing for my edges , it's just something that you need to be aware of when shelling out some serious money, we had a shop defending the quality of construction of the edges a few months ago , but when you checked his website or the buy and sell nearly every edge he was selling had a professional repair, I'm in the sport for the love of it , not for monetary gain
Well I'm in the sport because I love it too. I'm also in to make a living and pay the wages of several people (inc 10% super and Workcover), collect a lot of tax for the gov't (GST and company tax), but I totally reject the implication that because I make a living from selling and servicing kites then everything I say must be a lie or at least a partial lie.
There have been a lot of Edges sold in Oz, hundreds, literally! If they were all splitting every time they crashed the news of that would be widespread and they would be regarded as total rubbish and no-one would buy them or fly them.
The truth is, that the canopy is exactly the same material and construction as all the other Ozone kites sold during the time the Edges have been produced. The 2013 Edge has been "lightened" by making the bridle from thin unsheathed dyneema (much lower drag and weight), and some scuff pads were reduced in size or removed, some dacron panels in the tips were reduced in size. Every other facet of construction and material used is identical to all other Ozone kites.
Are we hearing about all Ozone kites being weak and splitting whenever they are crashed???
Kites splitting that have not split during a previous seasons (or more) worth of flying have clearly had some recent damage from self launching or self landing that
has gone unnoticed by the owner, and then when the kite is crashed hard the kite "just splits" for no apparent reason. Every shop and repairer hears these stories all the time.
Ozone are constantly improving their product's construction, this is due to the philosophy the company is built on and run by, call "Kaizen". Everyone in the Ozone company from the owners, the staff, dealers, team riders and especially including the customers is listened to and the resulting knowledge is used to improve everything about the company and its products.
Definition of Kaizen here
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KaizenThere is not a large or larger number of claims coming from Edge owners, than any other Ozone kite, and in general claims on Ozone products are very low across the several brands we stock.
