Anyone know where I can demo one in Melbourne?

Hi Guys is there anyone in Gold Coast with Axis foil? I would really like to try it before buying Beer on me =) I have LF Rocket v2 and LF Happy but not really happy with them after I tried Lift Carbon foil 170... Feels like Rocket and Happy are kinda grinding through the water, looking at the shape of Axis I think it should be very smooth: similar to Lift foil. Cheers Alex

How do you like the Uno for high wind foiling?

It was the first time I used it, I was actually on a demo. I was pretty happy, I mean It got me upwind from secret harbour to singleton and coming back down wind I didn't really need to touch it, the kite just hung in the sky. Coming down wind riding the swell all you really want is a kite to stay in the air with minimal input as your going from swell to swell. I had one moment where I was a bit worried but I literally had the kite sitting at 10 o'clock riding straight at it down wind, hit a big lump of swell and gained a heap of speed and flew straight under the kite it went from 10 to 12, started falling I was still burning speed riding straight downwind at it as it went to the other side of the window to 3 o'clock on the upwind side of me and I just pulled him back up to 12 and kept going no worries . Was pretty good almost impossible to outrun/stall, but the kite is super fast so you need to be ready for it, I just feathered the kite with light inputs as I was concentrating on the swell and waves.

The Uno is a fun little kite, one I pull out when it gets in the mid 20 knots. I am about 80 kilos. A friend from down the coast rides his Uno at about the 18 knot mark and he is about 68 kilos. I really enjoy the zippiness of that kite in higher winds. I would not recommend it for those who are not at the smooth transition stage, everything happens quite fast. I also use my standard 50cm bar with 25 mt lines.

Can anyone tell me how fast the older model axis should be able to go?

I'm flying a mono 9m and solo 4.5m and I'm at the stage of trying to go faster, getting smoked by windsurfers across the lake

I feel like I'm going fairly fast but then my GPS is saying I'm topping out at about 18kts. Can't seem to go faster. Is that top speed or is it my technique?

That's 19 knots on an 820 SUP setup.

Also chased the windfoilers (and regular windsurfers) across the harbor and estuary, and could keep up and out point them but they may not have been trying.

My buddies with the Axis kite foil can chase me down, so they got more on the top again. It's a lot of bloody work trying to load up and power the 820

Bigger kite needed? I use 10m almost exclusively, or maybe an 8 if I think it'll pick up...

Thanks Kami. I guess the take away is that I'm close to a decent speed but I should be able to get a bit more out of the foil, better technique might get me the rest of the way.

Don't think more kite is needed as there's times when I'm getting smashed by gusts and just barely holding it together.

Gusts won't help. Flat water though. Can't drop your bum and load up when you're trying to clear chop or the foil is bouncing in turbulence.

Looking at the polar thingies for that session, the speed runs were just off the wind and IIRC assisted by a decent swell. Cross or into the wind was no more than 12 knots.

Speed is a byproduct for me, not a goal.

Hey guys great thread!! Been lurking here for a bit and finally have decided to ASK if anybody can COMPARE the SSHOT infinity 76 foil (which ive been riding exclusively for a year now) experience with the AXIS Sseries 680 ??

Im very aware the the INfinity has 1530 square cm compared to the 1120 square cm of the AXIS 680...however Im also aware that the Axis is a thinner, potentially higher aspect wing and perhaps more efficient even at low speeds than its "square cm area" might suggest??

Definately do NOT want to give up the incredible low end and "pumpability" of the SSHOT 76 so I was HOPING that someone who has ridden BOTH these wings might give their 2 cents?? I assume that the Axis 680 has a higher top end (as Kamikuza has pointed out that he can ride 19 knots of speed on the 820 (impressive) but really wondering about its LOW end and the pumpability/carviness compared to the SSHot76.

Another question (while im at it) is anybody JUMPING while kiting the Axis 680? The reason im leaning towards AXIS (among others) is the apparent bomber connections between wing, fuse, mast...but I wonder if anyone is really putting that to the test by BOOSTING occasionally with this wing? My goal is 90 percent wave riding but ONCE in a while, if riding straps, its still nice to booost and have a birds eye view of the waves wouldnt ya agree?? jejeje...

Lastly, I notice that Axis on their webpage is promoting the Sseries 680 with the EXTRA SHORT FUSE for turny and playful and surfy feel. For those who use this foil on SUP foil for paddling OR WINGSURF....would you think that the EXTRA SHORT FUSE would still work fine for this application? I can imagine a LONGER fuse would be more desireable for stability for complete begginner...but is it also NECESSARY if using the foil with a SUP or could one get away with the Extra Short Fuse as well? Perhaps the other length FUSES will be phased out by AXIS next year?

Cant comment on the other wing but I have the 680 and the new higher aspect 900. I don't get a great deal of pumpability with the 680 (which is really a kiting size foil really). But I have prone surfed with the 680 it's really nimble ... but for pumping you'd wanna be pretty darn good at it (which I'm not). The 900 pumps really well and it's really fast. The lads are using the short fuse with the 900 and it's much more nimble and doesn't track in one direction as much (which is what you want). I watched Shannon and the crew pumping off the shore of sandy bay the other day on the axis gear.Amazing.

But ive seen crew on the SS stuff also cranking as well here. So they are all good mate.

But yeh the axis mast is super stiff and well engineered for sure.

Was looking at one yesterday. Looks good. Make sure you lubricate those bolt threads to stop any galvanic corrosion and you should be good.

Shanon (is that his name - pumps all the bays down yallingyup ) was pumping at sandy bay up at Exmouth the other day on axis gear. The guys a freak man. So good.

Comes with a tube of TefGel, which is lasting forever. I swapped my mast last week which is the first time the bolts were out since March... Still nicely covered in goo.

How do you like to ride?

bigger wing = smaller kite, more low end, more glide unpowered, better pumping, more stability...

"too much lift" will depend on how you like to ride, whether you ride strapless and don't mind moving your feet, or can trim the mast position on your board...

Smaller rear wing is more responsive...

Has anybody experienced the Axis s series 750 and MV board getting away from you on a crash? My friend just got one and though he loves it, that combo has the board staying on its edge and marching upwind faster than he can body drag. He nearly lost it out to sea and I can totally understand his concerns

I have heard the MV boards are bad for this. I've got the axis ride 48 carbon (28L volume) with a 680 & 820 wings. Have found the 820 wing to take off on me before because it does sit pretty sideways. Usually I can drag and get it, but it does get interesting in light winds when your're struggling to relaunch your kite and having to swim upwind after your board.

I recently got the S series with a 680. Seems nice and stable. Hoping it will help me finally nail transitions as my second foil. The thinner 16mm mast will be coming out soon.

I was actually wondering whether adding a 820 wing would give me more low end, but is it actually worth it? I'm 80kg. Strapless. Biggest kite ozone alpha 12m.

I'm about same weight. Give the 680 some more time and get those basic skills down first before you consider something like an 820 (way too big for dudes our weight I reckon with a kite). If wind is low I just set the mast further forward to get quicker lift, cause once ya up, ya up. Not denying the extra glide you get though on a bigger wing on a smaller kite.

The 820 is more inclined to float on its side due to the volume of the win (even compared to my 720) for sure. The 820 can be a bugger at sodding off upwind, but the swell pushes it back downwind ... it just goes more sideways and the 720 often surfs itself on the swell downwind faster than I can loop after it in light wind.

I am riding a 75cm mast as the industry seems to be shorter masts plus I never progressed to the 90cm Hoverglide mast. I did notice I don't have that much margin for error with the 75cm though. I might have to get a 90cm one day...

For waves did you mean prone surfing? I thought they prefer shorter masts.

How would a 920 wing behave for kiting? it's the wing size I'd need if I get a SUP foiling/winging.

820 is better for using a small kite with waves - you can essentially almost ride the wave with no power from the kite.
820 is boring on flat water though. 680 definitely a lot more lively and fun to carve around. .
Nb, I only have a standard length fuselage, maybe an extra short fuselage would make the 820 more fun.

How much you weigh ?

I went for the short fuselage as a compromise so I can use it for a SUP.
I think extra-short is good for advanced higher speed foiling.
