1. Windy scarbs -the back of your knees are being stung by sand

2. Really windy scarbs -the back of your ears ar being stung by sand

3. Over the top scarbs
-your kite is buried before you can launch it
- you look for your board but it too is buried.
- you go back to your car and its been stripped back to bare metal
-you dig the wheels out of the new sand dune thats formed and go home [with your lights on]

... when the spray is stinging your face and the biggest kite you can hold is the bar and lines alone with just a couple of knots tied in the ends of the lines for resistance.

You know it is windy (or going to be) when.....
a large flock of seabirds hunker down on the sands,
huddled up close together,
heads cranked into the moderate breeze,
feathers fluffed-up and wings tucked in tight.
